grew up in the branson area and have a lot of memories of celebration cities! but i DID think it was a fever dream i had that i went to church with a friend inside the celebration city castle. THANK YOU for confirming i didn’t make that up lmao

A Defunctland video on a place I’ve actually been to. I don’t remember much. I do remember that it felt expensive since it was only open a few hours & didn’t have much to do.

Also, a “Christian based park” definitely would seem less and less interesting to Americans over the years as less and less Americans, albeit younger audiences, would not be interested in going. And even if they lasted longe than they had, that would more than likely have become a bigger issue

Like Kevin, I'm also from Kansas City, and I learned really quickly when my dad and I stopped in Branson mid-roadtrip one Summer that it is a place for the very young, or the very old. I was too old to be the very young, and my dad was too young to be the very old, so we left within two hours.
The entire bit about Branson's target demographic being literal minutes from death is how I KNOW that Keven was also too old to be the very young the first time he set foot there.

Have to say…that Wehr guy that built the Branson theme park man he REALLY sucks at advertising. His website had the most braindead descriptions of all of his park's rides.

This one hits close to home. Went there several times as a kid and just could not believe it when they went away. Silver Dollar City is essentially the only amusement park in those parts now and they abuse the fact.

As someone who has spent many days at Silver Dollar City, there’s no way I would go to another theme park at the end of the day. Heck, some visits to SDC I almost couldn’t make it back to the car at closing time.

I grew up going to Branson. When I was a kid we’d go to Branson in the summer and lake of the Ozarks in the late fall. It felt like such a fun and special place, almost like a family friendly Vegas. Our preference was always Silver Dollar City, but I’d been to Celebration City a few times. I think the inherent Midwest hospitality and commitment to the family atmosphere was unmatched.

OMG! I just got it! My late father's middle name was Branson. It was never revealed to me why. I had been told when I was really little that some relative settled there but never really bought in to that story. I found (and still have) his copy of "The Shepherd of the Hills." It was signed by some distant, long deceased relative and dated shortly after he was born in 1940.
I never quite made the connection. All I knew was that that whole side of my family lived on Lake Chatuge in Hiawassee, Georgia and had morning to do with Branson, MO In fact, the original homestead was part of what was flooded by the TVA to make the lake. I have a feeling that either my grandma or this mystery relative was a fan of the book. The things you learn….
