Day the Dinos Died Prologue

I recall that NOVA produced a TV special on the Alvarez discovery in the 1970's or 1980's, describing the iridium strata all around the world that proved to be the "smoking gun," but I can't seem to locate that show on YouTube…does anyone know of it? Thank you.

I just watched the full version of this documentary. It's simply amazing how the scientific community is so stringent at sticking to an idea once it's been established/accepted whether that idea is correct or not. They'll kick and scream, throw tantrums and whine at any change to the 'established' ideology whatever before going nuts on any new concept and then kick and scream to maintain that concept whether, like the last one, it's proven wrong or not. Jeez, pull your heads out….

I continue to see documentaries extolling the concept of how the Chicxulub impact killed off the dinosaurs when in fact it probably did not. I remember when this concept first hit the headlines and everybody jumped on it. Especially people like Jack Horner who has done much good work in his life but seems to be succumbing to at least mild dementia of late. Especially after having had declared the T. Rex as a scavenger only. That would be about as preposterous as declaring a golden eagle as a nectar feeder. So damn, once evidence has been shown to the contrary, let it go for crap sake.

Robert T. Bakker has pretty much conclusively shown that the bulk of the dinosaur population had already disappeared some 10 million years prior to the Chicxulub impact. Yes, the impact had a devastating impact on the earth, but it wasn't on the dinosaurs. And no, it wasn't quite as totally devastating as is been led to believe.

There exists a gap of roughly 10 million years just under the KT boundary which contains little if any in the way of fossil record. It seems that the reign of the dinosaur had been long since brought to an end by a series of devastating events (to include disease epidemics carried by sand fleas) long before the impact that everybody seems so reluctant to give up on. Boy oh boy. Now, that's good science….

Very interesting program, indeed, but it has a major problem, a problem which really INTERFERES with the viewing of the program in its entirety: it has to do with what some people may call the "music" of this program, in the background, and which to my ears is nothing more than extremely annoying loud noise in very bad taste (nothing to do with music actually!) That is really too bad, because the program contains a lot of interesting research and theory, which one cannot listen to: that noise was so unnerving, tacky, cheap, and histrionic, that I could not finish watching your program! Nova, please, next time choose more carefully the soundtrack for your programs!
