How would a business profit? No one will order a dessert they know they have to pay for unless they already wanted to get it. So all the plate lickers would get free desserts. Lots of loss

What i love about this is that it shows more of Darl's and Tim's relationship than you might think. Tim may be disappointed in Darl for not having a job, but when Darl has an idea Tim thinks is good he encourages him to push on it. Tim isn't just some hillbilly who's rude to his son that's falling behind, he's a father who just wants his son to come up with good idea and put them to use

The problem is that there's no gain for the business. Maybe if the customers washed their dishes when finished then they can get a free dessert. But licking it clean does nothing for the business. It still gets cleaned like the rest.

Unless the meals were portioned so that they were difficult to finish, all you would have done is make it so that everyone gets a free desert for no reason.
