D2: The Mighty Ducks Was Even More Ridiculous Than You Remember
The knucklepuck. Team Iceland. “Cake eater.” The legendary jersey change. And yes… the Canada geese pretending to be ducks.
In this video, we’re taking a nostalgic deep dive into D2: The Mighty Ducks, the 1994 Disney sports sequel that somehow makes almost no sense… and still completely rules. From Gordon Bombay’s anti-sellout story happening inside one of Disney’s most corporate sports movies, to the bizarre rise of Team Iceland, the questionable Team USA roster, the impossible shootout, Russ Tyler’s legendary knucklepuck, and all the little filming mistakes you may have missed as a kid, D2 is one of the most gloriously flawed movies of the ’90s.
This isn’t a “D2 is bad” video. Far from it. This is a celebration of everything that made D2: The Mighty Ducks unforgettable: the over-the-top villains, the emotional jersey reveal, the ridiculous hockey logic, and the kind of Disney sports-movie magic that made an entire generation believe Ducks really do fly together.
So now we want to hear from you: what is the biggest flaw in D2: The Mighty Ducks that you only noticed as an adult? Was it Team Iceland? The illegal shootout? The Team USA setup? The knucklepuck? Or does none of it matter because this movie still completely rules?
Drop your thoughts in the comments — we read every one.

I like Charlie giving up his spot. It was already stated hes an average player but has high hockey IQ. Adam and Russ were needed especially Adam who is the best player on the team. Coach Charlie won that game with his ally oop puck play and calling out gunners weakness lol
Charlie was the reason for them winning in all 3 movies lowkey. He earned that "C"

charlie wasnt the best on the team, so him giving up his spot never bothered me….even Averman had more goals than charlie spazway

6:26 – Is anyone else going to point out that they showed Dean Portman instead of Kenny Wu?
Isn't that the kind of error AI generators make? Surely a human who claims to love D2 would know the difference between Kenny and Dean…right?
Would love to hear from the "host" to see how the "showcase of the 5 new people" screwed up and omitted one character while showing another character in his place.

Good video but Hans's exodus was indeed explained – however briefly. Jan told Gordon when he picked him up at the start of the movie that "Hans that strudelhead went back to the Old Country". So it was explained.

The fact that the big final shot by Gunner was a triple deke, and that players on the Ducks actually count it out "1…2…3…" only for Gunner to stop and take a slapshot. Dekes where you stop and wind up…. aren't really dekes?

When you mention how alot of the players werent from the district 5 area, wasnt that cuz the corporate dude brought in a bunch of the best other players that he introduced in D2? It wasnt supposed to be just the ducks but the best players in the league, idk thats just what i thought. Love these movies either way

I always noticed these things and I wasnt a hockey fan, just liked kids movies since I was 11. I liked D1 way more because I always felt D2 was way too far of a stretch.

Shout out to Coach Wolf “The Dentist” Stansson who was also the head honcho of the Sekai Tekai on Cobra Kai.

I’m 43….This movie is ridiculous…..but I saw it in the theater with a buddy for my 11th birthday and it was AWESOME. I loved the movie then and still really enjoy it now.

The knuckle puck is absolutely a real trick shot, it's not set up like the film on it's side but a player can do it.
Jan's wasn't in the first film because he was taking care of his mother in Scandinavian and his mother asked Hans to switch places saying she always liked him more. Opening when he picks up Gordon at the bus stop he says this.

You're certainly making a lot of assumptions about the Junior Goodwill Games hockey rulebook. I'll assume that they are following IIHF and not NHL rules, which state in the shootout, "The goaltenders from each team may be changed after each shot."

I hated it when Charlie gave up his spot when I was younger, until I watched this movie recently, and Banks was the best player on the team by a long shot.

The reason they picked Iceland was because they couldn't find a country called Puckland or Hockeyland

This comes off as a bitter, over analytical take down of a kids movie for no reason other than spite.
