Olga being canonized as a Saint is why I'll NEVER hear out foreigners complaining that we here in Romania canonized a couple guys that were once members of the Iron Guard. Like, fuck off.

2:04 Byzantines were medieval Greeks, though they didn't call themselves Byzantine; they called themselves Romans (Rhomaioi) as they were the continuation of the Roman Empire after the fall of the Western empire in 476.

You forgot a detail about Olga. The prince that proposed was the one that killed her husband which made Olga the ruler since their child was too young. They were so full themselves for killing the king that them they sent those guys. All of what she did wasn't malice it was pure revenge. Never piss off a slav woman

Incase anyone wants to know the actual story of Olga summed up it’s actually way more deep a rabbit hole than Sam described. Everything he said was true but Those weren’t random people she burnt and buried alive, those were the men responsible for her husbands death. A prince who’d been propositioning Olga had her husband put down for lack of better words so she accepted and had HIM burnt alive while she buried his ambassadors alive. She then went to the village of the prince aka the enemy and proceeded to burn the entire town to the ground using only birds and fire. For whatever reason after her death she was canonized as a saint.

3:37 Drevlians also killed her husband when he came to collect tribute, so she had every right to hate them and act on that hatred

If my spouse was killed by someone among my subjects i would go across their entire region and raise every littlest village to the ground along with every man, woman and child there and plunder everything. To make an example.

I had to look up why she's a saint. Apparently, she converted to Christianity some time after the brutality you mentioned. She failed to convert her son, but converted her grandson which led to the Gospel spreading to the whole Rus people.
