it was common in the 70s for doctors to prescribe braces for kids saying that they needed them to make their feet straight but they really didn't. It was just a natural thing that they would've outgrown if they were just left alone.

I’d often watch Caillou out of sheer boredom as a teenager, because I was often bored and didn’t really have any friends to hang out with because most of my classmates were jerks who didn’t want anything to do with me, I’d
make up a more adult version of the show with bad things happening to him all the time and people including his parents were abusive and cruel to him.
