Community mourns man killed in Traverse City, Michigan shooting

UpNorthLive | May 9, 2026

The Traverse City community is mourning from the tragic shooting death of Lawrence Boyd, a young man remembered for his kindness and dedication to his family.

Police say the deadly shooting is connected to an attempted car break-in, a chase, and shots fired at officers over the weekend.

Lawrence lived on Old Mission Peninsula with his mother, Kristy Hooper, who is battling bone cancer, and was building a future with his longtime girlfriend, Amanda Evans.

Despite the support of family and friends, their home feels empty without him.

I see cherry Koolaide for lipstick in their future…Well these spoiled punks won't be getting special treatment at Jackson prison, they'll just be some fresh young ones for the silver backs TO HAVE AT WILL. Catching a life sentence at that age is a long time and a wrong age to go into an adult prison where only two types exist: PREY AND PREDATORS. One must also remember getting through the time "unscathed" is impossible. Yes they may have the "POSSIBILITY" of parole LATER IN DECADES but I'm here to tell everyone the PROBABILITY" is ZERO.

There are no words adequate to express the profound sorrow felt in the wake of your son’s senseless passing. My heart aches for you, and I am praying for the peace and comfort that only our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, can provide.
It is in times of such unimaginable darkness that we must cling to the truth of Jesus's promises. His light shines brightest in our brokenness. We know that in this world you will have trouble, but Jesus, having overcome the world (John 16:33), holds a peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
He walked a path of suffering and sorrow, and He understands your pain intimately. He wept at the tomb of Lazarus (John 11:35), and He weeps with you now. He is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).
This earthly life is temporary, full of trials and pain, but we hold onto the eternal hope offered through His sacrifice. Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life. He who believes in Him will live, even though he dies (John 11:25).
While the circumstances of your sons death are horrific and defy earthly logic, we rest in the assurance that no darkness, no evil, can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39). God's justice will prevail, in His time and in His way, and your son is now in His loving care, safe in His eternal presence where there is no more suffering, crime, or tears (Revelation 21:4).
Lean into His everlasting arms, allow Him to carry you through this storm. Trust that He is using this tragedy in ways we cannot comprehend now, and He will guide you through the grief. His grace is sufficient for you, for His power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
    With deepest sympathy and prayers,

    —Dawn ✝️🛐
