Variety | March 15, 2026

Irish actors Colin Farrell and Jessie Buckley immediately bond during their conversation in the Actors on Actors chairs. They discuss Buckley’s heartbreaking turn in ‘Hamnet,’ Farrell’s unhinged performance in ‘Ballad of a Small Player’ and reflect on his transformation as Oz in ‘The Penguin.’

OMG what a beautiful, intelligent, aware human Colin Farrell is. Jessie Buckley's raw communication is so refreshingly honest and absolute. Love this conversation between two great people. Wish there were more honest talking like this

A delightful experience of entering the alembic of two immensely emotionally articulate human beings. What wonderful treasures from the emerald 💚 isle – made in Ireland 🇮🇪 ❤

I love her: she’s so raw. Her unique brain, heart and perspective of life. Colin & Jessie’s beautifully complex and layered brains & how they speak about cinema was a true treat to listen to.

I'm Irish and I wish I could speak with the articularcy they have. But I can't even spell the word. Articulat….
Luckily my 17 year son has it. He can quote a lot of Shakespeare and speak fluent Irish and is good at French.
    So it passed me by.

    They're brilliant.

Love that Colin mentioned Close Encounters, it may not be that relevant anymore in the big scheme of things but everyone should seek it out and have a look. It was amazing back in the day as a young boy.

This made me long for the nourishing and electric conversations that I have had with people in the past. They are so connected to art and beauty. They are also searching for the most true thing to say in any moment. Quite beautiful!

If I say its remarkable how such a small country like Ireland is producing so many incredible people of the arts, its sound like surprise. It isnt, its pure pride and acknowledgement of the incredible journey the country is on. The ability to openly articulate such emotion shows further growth to society. General education in its breadth is not something you always experience visiting all countries. That basis in education married to the natural way with words is just different. Its not unique but it feels more prevalent to me as an Irish expat most of my life. Cillian Murphy and Margot Robbie in this series is also so refreshing in its natural way at a time of falseness, physical and emotional.

So much they discussed about mystery and empathy and catharsis matches the writer's life. That first book you read an realize this is the world I want to be in, this world of words that are magic.
