Christopher Nolan – “The Odyssey” | The Daily Show

The Daily Show | July 14, 2026

“People want to go on this journey with us, let’s give them a reason to believe.” Oscar-winning director, writer, and producer Christopher Nolan sits down with Jon Stewart to discuss his new film, “The Odyssey.” They talk about “Oppenheimer” paving the way for “The Odyssey” to be made, Nolan’s process of constructing movies through diagrams and structures, his embrace of the fantastical while showing respect to the film’s source material, and finishing ahead of schedule despite filming with an IMAX camera in three-minute increments. #DailyShow #ChristopherNolan #TheOdyssey #Oppenheimer

This is the best interview with a director I've seen in years. Finally someone getting Nolan to explain his thought process a bit. In other interviews he just promotes the movie itself. John brought out his inner nerd which we all know he is.

Funny Nolan and the other uneducated actors(?) say its just a Myth then why did Christopher Nolan in his movie The Dark Knight based on just a comic book cast Batman or his butler Alfred etc as a Asian or Middle Eastern or African etc seems he knew it would have flopped but the Odyssey story is unknown to a lot of people and a prime story to destroy

Odyssey doesn't need a huge budget or a huge cast to tell the story right. It seems he wanted to do an old type Hollywood movie, like those empty Cleopatra movies. Happy, I don't care, but the film promotion gets in my face all the time.

Despite what the early bad comments says, this movie was absolutely great!! I’ll watch it again in IMAX … but even after the movie gets out to all public, the hate fan is a real thing and they will find any little thing to bash down this amazing movie

Hey Everybody… [old man voice] lookie lookie hre… here, there … Doctor Nolan… i presume…? This is the guy who came up with Einstein's Hat- check it out- how a malevolent hidden thought changed the world, how hubris used math to make lightning, the limits of science, what it means to move to a small Japanese fishing village… take the mayor out… shoot him in the head at the corner of Park and Mane, . then do the same thing to his wife three or four days later. and then take is kid and say you are mine now. What a movie that would be…?

5:00 This is in stark contrast to Ridley's Napoleon, in which he could not care less about the source material. He made a movie that a 10-year-old British kid would want to see after hearing centuries of how Britain bested Napoleon.

Historians are raving about Odyssey! The guys from, “The Rest is History”, podcast proclaimed it to be the greatest retelling of Ancient Greek mythology ever. Can’t wait to see it! Take that racist, maga, fascist BIGOTS!
