The thing with Eddie is that as great as a his lead playing was, his rhythm playing was off the charts. Anyway I think Randy and Eddie were very different animals, love them both, but besides using some techniques in common they are in my opinion on the opposite side of the guitar playing spectrum.

Randy Rhoades never even one time made best guitarists of the year or has he ever been in the top ten of guitar greats all you have to do is research it.. nothing Rhoades did was new or innovative…

If you want to know who is better Randy or Eddie, just listen to the first 2 quiet riot records and listen to VH 1 and 2. Eddie was years ahead of Randy and they were about the same age.

    Eddie is untouchable. Period.
No other Rock guitarist compares to him.
Writing, soloing, he changed the way guitar playing was approached overnight in 1978.
He wrote tons of iconic rock songs, he could do backup vocals too. He Had his own distinctive sound, built his guitars from scratch, etc….
    he was the total package.

Nobody compares to Edward van Halen, in the Rock idiom…..
    Not Randy Rhoads,
    Not Jimi Hendrix,
    Not ANYBODY.

And this is not up for debate.
It doesn't matter if you don't agree, yes you can have your opinion, but if your opinion don't include EVH as the greatest, your opinion is objectively wrong😊😊😊

His comments about Randy are interesting – I'd spotted the similarity between Believer and Mr Crowley's solos, and I'm sure I read somewhere that Randy had played "guide" solos on some of the songs on Diary and planned on replacing them later with the real thing – but the album was rushed out to maintain the momentum from the first one, and he never got the chance. So maybe that's the reason.

Wow, this is loaded with the RR Myth Warriors….. what Coulda', Shoulda' Mighta' been. Taking their wanna be virtuoso, self-righteous, eclectic ear anger out on a guy whose mistakes were 'unfortunately' having his music grow up a bit after 1984 and not dying in 1982 with Randy. Stop comparing the two their different, but they were both GREAT. Feel lucky you had them.

Both incredible players..Ed with more natural swing and innovation, Randy with more thought behind what he played and not able to go outside his comfort zone as easily. Both incredible. Randy live though, total package. The look, the tone, the savage agressive playing. So good.

    Love thus channel!
I was fortunate enough to see Randy at the Detroit Masonic Temple show in 1981 with Motorhead.
The intensity of his playing had the whole room in awe.
I like VH too, but prefer the incredible songwriting and harmonic minor twists of RR.

Randy to me, is the greatest. The comparisons between him and Van halen since the 70's, are ridiculous. Van halen always comes up number 1,in guitar polls, while Randy doesn't even get mentioned. Randy wasn't around long enough to really make his mark, while Van halen had a 40 plus year career.

i remember when Devin Townsend told me Chris auditioned for Alcatraz they didnt want him because he was musically illiterate. at the time i think he was a marty friedman fan.
