Tipping is so annoying. People think they are entitled to your money if they just did what they were supposed to do. Nah. Unless you did an exceptional job, I'm not giving you anything.

Inflation not only affects prices at face value but also seems to affect percentages. When I was younger it was common practice to tip 10% now you’re getting frowned upon if you don’t tip at least 20% on an already inflated price. And the tip is almost mandatory, even if the waiter barely did their job.

So I had double by-pass surgery and valve replacement. My total cost, surgeons, doctors, all hospital cost, 28 days, etc, was about $3,300. I went in a week after it was found I needed to. How long do Canadians, English, and most others have to wait? See, in America everyone can get healthcare when they need it. It's not rationed. Non citizens can go to emergency rooms and most are covered under Medicaid. Thus medicaid and medicare is healthcare coverage. I saw where in UK if you were over 55 you could not get a knee replacement. I saw a mile long line for a few open dental appointments in England. Why do so many Canadians have to come to America to get healthcare? Because American care is not rationed like everywhere else.

I have never left a tip and hence was able to afford my first home! Take this advice! Why throw money away? Makes no sense!! And then I tell the server the meal was bad and its free! Makes no sense!! I would be furious If I was them ! hahahahahahahhahahah

Tipping in general is just asinine anyway and needs to go. A tip prompt just exposes an employer as a scumbag who financially abuses their staff. How are they not embarrassed? More importantly, why does everyone support this? #endtipping

I don’t tip sorry. I will if I want and the service was great but if it was normal or bad, you’re getting nothing. I also dated a server and he felt SO entitled to other peoples money. It was kind of disgusting honestly. These servers aren’t thinning their guests are soooo great. I also don’t tip bc I’m not a coward. Food service has gone so downhill . I only tip for pizza delivery and it’s just $3 no matter what I buy

I have a question about these strange tips : are we sure that the 15-20% tip will be for the worker if we don't use cash ? It would be an interesting scam for the company to make people pay more when they believe they help employees with low revenues

Wtf is there to explain. In some countries you don't tip. In others you tip as in "keep the change" or "the experience was amazing, take this". Not everyone can afford the same tip so it varies. No fixed percentages. Just give something you would like to give away. No stress. If you're rich and €200 is something you earn in an hour you give a lot and they're lucky. If you earn minimum wage, you give 50 cents and most of the times they would genuinely be happy with it.

Just be nice, have positive interactions. Try to also make their day by being polite, funny, talkative if there's time for it and just chill. Be a good customer is the most important thing. It baffles me that this doesn't apply to the US of A.

For someone in Ireland, I actually can't understand how businesses have manipulated an entire country into believing that it isn't their responsibility to pay their own employees and its instead the customers duty. That's absolute madness to me.

So wrong? tipping is not a thing here in the UK and most of Europe as well as Japan. Its pretty much only an American thing, European countries never fully adopted it, some cultures like that of Japan find it offensive and third world countries cant afford it. Tipping is something that really infuriates me and its, to me a normalized capitalist issue. I find it disgusting people treat it as the courteous thing to do. Customers owe no compassion to their servicers, and the introduction of tipping encourages shaming those who don't for "Disregarding the bad pay in their line of work" and "Not appreciating their personality in their interaction with you"

Only the best restaurants deserve to thrive. I personally believe we should get rid of tipping culture. I’d love to see real hard data to conclude it’s better for the economy. I mean just based on anecdotal evidence in this comment section people don’t report their income anyways, so we lose both times. Literally almost every country doesn’t tip. I swear someone must’ve lobbied hard for this. Not everyone should eat out at a restaurant. It should be reserved for people who have disposable income. There are plenty of restaurants that don’t have servers. That way we all win. This serving job isn’t supposed to be some niche get rich quick kinda thing. If you want that be a twitch streamer or something.

The waiters are often annoyed because one out of the last ten people they served tipped them too little, which gives the bravest out of the next ten people the excuse they need to undertip which perpetuates the cycle.

Tipping written into american law. American restaurants association lobbied exclusion from main labor laws about minimum wage, unions and etc. For normal salaries laws must be changed at least, stopping tipping won't help servicemen. Restaurants threatening politicians that they will close tomorrow if law will be changed.

The worst part about tipping culture in the US from a customer perspective is that employees will get angry at customers who don't tip, even when they only deliver sub par or average service. I've legitimately had the delivery drivers from the local dominoes circle the tip section on the receipt and write on there in big letters "TIP!!!" when they can't even be bothered to knock on my door most of the time when they drop the pizza off and instead leave it sitting outside.

I'm already paying an extra five or six dollars for the delivery fee, while the company barely pays the employees for doing said delivery job, then the employees get angry at me for not paying them extra directly on top of that for doing the bare minimum of the job they agreed to work?
