That "it's a gimmick" moment from Blayne is just perfect.
I can't tell how many times i had that reaction with people making fun of power metal stuff. Yes guys with long hair talking about elves, unicorns and shit is cheesy and gimmicky and over the top, but what in metal isn't gimmicky or theatrical in any sort of way. Many times those people are fans of nordic guys brooding in the snowy forest, faces painted like a kiss tribute band.
    So thanks for that Blayne

I've been absolutely on board with this band ever since I heard Cry for Me a little bit before their first release. Even though there was a short time before the last release and this one, I still think they evolved their sound enough and crafted great songs. Enough to justify a second release.

Came back to say that after a few listens this quickly became one of my albums of the year. I dig how some of the songs feel like Act 1 and Act 2 of a level much like Sonic classics did where it’s the same song but slightly remixed in tone and speed. I even like the more slower tracks. Easily a 4.5 💀 out of 5

"I can't in good conscience support a silly gimmick band like Castle Rat. It cheapens heavy metal" He thought, while carefully choosing which KISS t-shirt to wear that day.

You describe them very well. I love Castle Rat. Their music is good, their show is fun and entertaining. They walk a tightrope for sure.
I've seen them twice, both times as support, both times a sell out. Going for a third time on this tour where they headlining, at a bigger venue, and it's sold out. Yes, go see them and have a great time.
Worth mentioning they did a kickstarter for Bestiary and it raised 6 figures.

I haven't heard the album yet (I will, it sounds fun), but for those who like it, the clips sound a lot like Lowen's brand of thing to me. Yall should check out Lowen.

After seeing the vid of her playing banjo, it makes sense why this record reminded me of the Southern doom/sludge bands with that folky aspect to the music.

"is the gimmick good?" bam. Nail on the head Blaine. great point. I love this band and I've been so confused by the recent haters. Also I love me a good metal gimmick like I am the intimidator. Also thanks for solicitor recommendation.

I actually got to see them TWICE in one festival. They played Sonic Blast in Portugal both on the warmup and the last day. They were spectacular both times but especially the last day seeing them on the main stage was phenomenal.

Great songs. Album would be better with less of the interlude tracks. Got tix to see them for my second time next month. And yes both show sold out. The future is bright for Castle Rat.

I discovered Castle Rat cause I was on a stoner metal binge on Pandora, particularly stuff like King Buffalo, All Them Witches, Greenleaf, Ruby The Hatchet, that sort of shit. Castle Rat immediately hooked me, their presentation, their musical talent, the charisma of their frontwoman, it hits so hard for me. It reminds me so mucho of Dio, bombastic and campy but powerfully sincere. Just good shit.

Are they a gimmick? Well on this tour they decided to bring their own lighting guy. Lets be clear, NOT a sound guy, but a lighting guy. That should be your answer. Still sounded amazing though.

I love the new record. I backed on the Kickstarter and got the signed glow in the dark. It’s funny I saw them open for Green Lung last year and they were great. But after a year of touring and now a headliner, they were fantastic down in Columbus, Ohio. Can’t wait to see where things take this band. Cheers!!
