My father forbid me to spend my money on the new Meta Quest 3 I work for because he believes this stuff brainwashes me and makes me do some crazy shit. He's watching a lot of these theories where some random guy claiming he has a degree in anything tells you how bad something is and my father isn't even thinking, just accepts it as long as it takes my hobby in gaming into the dirt. I never had a VR, always wanted one. I can't even tell him that because he wouldn't listen, just calling me "naive" and "unknown" because I'm not as long on the earth as him. I searched for this video in hopes to proof he's wrong but he will probably take this as proof why it's bad

It would be I think impossible because you would need to be able to manipulate ALL senses. There are more than 5 senses you know? One example is feeling temperature…some will say that it's derived from touch, but I say to them…YEAH! But it's still it's own sense. Balance is another sense that we have. We always have a sense of balance. Walk around your room whilst at every step crossing you feet. You can still walk. You do not fall down because you have that sense of balance. That's what dizziness is! It's an alert that your body is losing it's sense of balance, and that you have to stand still for a bit so that your body can regain that sense of balance. Pain is a sense. Acceleration is a sense. Chronoception, the ability to sense the passage of time (again we could say time isn't real and it's just something humans made up to help us organise, progress and evolve but because time is such a basic thing I'm gonna say just for this comment that time is real)
    Hunger is another one.
And these are just some of the senses we have. So it would be kind of impossible to control/manipulate ALL of them.

I think you kinda hit it and then just drove past the idea when you mentioned that VR just sort of enhances what normal media already does. I would definitely argue that it's not just media, but what society and culture can do at large. I am speaking as someone living in the US here, but take the vaccination example and extend the metaphor to natural disasters and war. You're sitting there watching reality tv or some spicy novel or boppin to a new album, meanwhile the west coast is literally burning year round. Several countries with millions of people are starving or being subjugated under military engagements. Polar ice caps are melting and the planet is becoming warmer. You know it's happening, and you may even care deeply about it, but your first world lifestyle has acted as an anesthetic against truly being affected by it. You are being sold simple solutions to solve it that only serve to make opportunistic rich guys even richer. And odds are you already have a job or career that consumes so much of your time in the first place that even if you know that, there is little to no way you can make real world change without putting your own survival in jeopardy.

The question of will VR or some other tech "brainwash" you is simply a reflex against the idea that some current autonomy and agency you still have will be taken away, but the reality is- like a frog in a boiling pot of water -this agency is already slipping away and you will welcome it when it comes for superfluous reasons.

That being said I don't think VR or any other media is inherently bad. There is consumer crap in every nook and cranny of modern life, but there is art out there that can awaken feelings and increase awareness in people. Capsules of understanding about the human condition scattered like breadcrumbs through the history of our species. You just have to be willing to look.
