Bob Ross: My Childhood Hero – Cinemassacre Review
Bob Ross is definitely one of my childhood heroes. He’s probably the first person that got me into art, even before film making. For those who don’t know, Bob Ross was an American painter, art instructor, and television host. He was the creator and host of The Joy of Painting, an instructional television program that aired from 1983 to 1994 on PBS in the United States, and also aired in Canada, Latin America, and Europe. Ross went from being a public television personality in the 1980s and 1990s to posthumously being an Internet celebrity in the 21st century, with his talent and kindness leading to major popularity with fans online many years after his death.

3:24 Bob Ross painted everything three times. The first painting was what Bob used as an off-screen reference. The second painting was photographed and painted in segments for the introduction of the episode. The third and final version was the one Bob painted on camera in 20+ minutes.

I was in the shit with 2nd Lt. Robert H. Ross, UISAF. during Nam We used to call him "The Blender", because he would use his payload to render entire VC villages into gooey, fiery mush. God bless you Lt. Bob…we remember you!

I feel in this day and age, pepole need Bobs words more then ever.
Anyone can paint. Anyone can learn and improve,
the mistakes are necessary building blocks to form improvement.
They arent meant to be looked on with shame but instead to be seen as all the steps you took to become what youve wanted to be.
And you get the satisfaction of being finally able to draw something you could before only dream of doing

Its funny that the Nerd is the exact opposite of bob ross. Loud, insulting, angry. Instead of encouragement to pain the Moundans, the Nerd scars you away from even touching a video game controller.

It is tragic that sales of Bob Ross merchandise don’t benefit his family – they really got shafted on the whole thing. Bob would be calmly furious about it.

I recently started watching Bob Ross on YouTube. I love falling asleep to it while creating a picture in my head just by the audio. My favorite line. "Two hairs and some air"

I have almost no interest in art, but would watch Bob Ross on UK Living every morning I wasn't at school, like holidays and weekends, as a teenager. It's honestly just the most soothing thing, I could be as angry, anxious or depressed as you like, but a few episodes of the Joy of Painting and it was like it almost never happened.

James, I share the same memories of Bob Ross as you. Although I never actually got to paint with oil paints. I’ve lived in the Orlando area now for 25 years, and only in the last 5 years discovered that Bob Ross is buried just literally a few miles from where I live, in Gotha, Florida. We also have a large Bob Ross mural on the side of a Floyd’s 99 barbershop on the north side of town in Winter Park. If you’re ever in the area, you should check out both. People frequently leave things on the gravesite, like paints, stuffed animals or art. Very neat.

It’s still a surprise to hear he had passed in ‘95. I was born in ‘98 and grew up watching him on PBS too. I didn’t find out he had passed away until I was like 8 years old and it devastated me. Such a legend. Even has a skin in SMITE which is imo one of the best in the game.

Crazy Fact, Bob Ross was an Air Force MTI (The Air Force’s version of a Drill Sergeant), Just shows MTIs do more than scream at recruits.
