In 1995 two of the biggest bands in Britain went head to head in one of the biggest chart showdowns of all time. Those bands were Blur and Oasis. The songs were “Country House” and “Roll With It”, both vying for the top spot. The UK public and press were captivated. It marked the end of Britpop as a fringe movement, transforming it into the most important idea in British music since punk. But it also signalled the beginning of the end, the inevitable over-saturation of the moment. But before that, who won the Britpop War?
