There was a copyright claim at the beginning of the video that caused a short audio drop for like 20 seconds. But its all good after that

I'm watching this!šŸ‡µšŸ‡šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ You're not fucking up by putting hours of time and effort into your production. As a Femme Nonbinary, I'm enjoying a Straight man telling me the history of Beyonce using basketball references.

When I saw that country singer, whose last name is Chesney I think that’s how you spell it had that horrible look on his face when BeyoncĆ© was with the Dixie chicks. If you watch the video you can see him he didn’t clap he didn’t do anything had a really bad look on his face. I knew then wow this is some sort of discrimination at least with that man everybody else was having a great time.

listen to ā€œBacklash Bluesā€ by Nina Simone. She is so powerful, intelligent, inspiring and talented. Please, we need another Nina right now!

love this vid so far, and so late to the convo but just wanna say that I was born in 1996 and was about 15/16 when BEYONCE dropped. we’re not that young, we were there! lol

1:21:43 about the propaganda: I was shocked to see her come out twerking on a full on bedazzled war tank during her renaissance world tour. I asked myself if she had gotten money from the Defence Department, because it was textbook propaganda for the US military.

Unfortunately, I am not convinced she's black. And if she isn't a white woman/man in tan, I dont believe she is for our people. I just believe it was their way to get in/near black spaces/people without actually being there. Now here's her and jay-z downfall, and she is used to bring down our name even further. We know they lied about their lives. They are actors. It wouldn't be hard to believe. P.S. I love the anime references.

Just a correction, Beyonce didn't "join" Parkwood, she founded it, becoming one of the first artists to take full ownership of their careers by managing themselves, self-funding their music and tours, producing their tours etc

While I do appreciate this breakdown, I just cant really get into Beyonce's music beyond the mainstream media exposure to her music and her pop singer peers, the music does not have enough substance, not enough soul for me. Beyonce and her peers are upholders of Empire and capitalism.

26:58 I’ve seen this quote in reference to something else, but I think it perfectly applies here: looking back on that time was like living in a warm and cozy cabin, and then going out into the frozen, snow covered winter, only to turn around and realize the cabin never existed.

18:40 I don’t know if you care, but I am enjoying it! Lol honestly this is one of the reasons why I love social media, but particularly YouTube for its long format as I think it’s important to really understand different perspectives and your videos are very insightful, and I have learned a lot. I’m trying really hard to get out of a one track algorithm, I don’t want to get stuck in an echo chamber.

Im not sure who could’ve explained this better. And your references are always appreciated! The way you maintain unbiased opinion or explain facts without bias is truly a pleasure when watching a video essay. I don’t feel compelled to one side and Im able to form my own opinion on whoever or whatever. Though those feelings are complex, it’s always nice to receive information and exercise my brain to form an opinion.

My godmother is black but she and I didn't get to hang out all that often, I really like your videos because they answer a lot of questions I would have had for her, and your humour reminds me of her. Big love to Uncle fd.
Ps. Have you ever thought about doing a video on the whole illuminati thing for real?? Those theories feel adjacent to "aliens built the pyramids" types and id love to hear your thoughts on it for 3 hours. Plus when Kesha was REALLY going through it with her conservatorship that was big with her too. Feels like the targets were black celebrities and white women who were highly controlled by their labels. And Justin Bieber. You see how this could be 3 hours.

Sorry for so many comments theres just so much to respond to. About the Kelis sample: it actually wasn't a sample, it was an interpolation. Before the album was released, Kelis was upset when she found out the vocal was sampled without asking her first. In reality the melody was interpolated for Break My Soul and Kelis was credited as a writer. This would've given her that payout through that writing credit, which was removed when the interpolation was removed.

When self titled came out I was in my freshman year of college. I was also in a phase of not being a Beyonce fan, (I'm writing this wearing a cowboy carter t shirt, things have changed 🫢) and I literally woke up all my suite mates yelling about it. I remember my roommate said she thought I wasn't a Beyonce fan, and I gave her the craziest look and literally lied and said I never said that. I went home with a friend to Philly for Thanksgiving break and listened to that album for the better part of a 7 hour drive across PA. Then I went home for Christmas break and my mom had bought the album with the visual album and we watched it like once a week 😩 My mom literally only bought bootleg music unless it was Beyonce or Adele. šŸ˜‚ I credit that album and the ones that followed for a lot of my inspiration as an artist and a creative; and the friction that reality creates with my understanding of the ways Beyonce's ethic as an ultra wealthy person in this time of economic inequality harms black people, queer people, poor people, (all groups I belong to), etc. is such a difficult thing to rectify. The push and pull of the genuine inspiration I feel for her artistry and the disdain I have for her exploitation of the same people she inspires is just so emblematic of the reality of being a person in this fucked up world, honestly. It's really so sad.

I'm not much into Beyonce so hearing that she's for the gays surprised me. Then I remembered what exactly single ladies was and I feel like I need to take a second look there

28:49 pop feminism literally ruined feminism. It derailed women and girls from actual feminism which is the liberation of the female class from the patriarchy..

She terrifes me..the way she has lived ALL her life in the spotlight and still thrives mentally/career wise is almost inhumane.

Beyonce has had a history of stealing other artists work. Her husband has some extremely shady ways of doing business especially through title. And both Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z have a very disturbing connection to p Diddy and they were at those parties. I know what Beyonce represents to our community but she's not who everyone thinks she is. The truth has been beginning to come out about her and her husband. One day their empire will fall. Mark my words.

We’re not talking about imperfection. That is such a dumb-ass take. We are talking about a billionaire performer who charged hundreds of dollars for tickets. Is now overcharging for her non-music products. And married a dude who wanted a Times Square casino. We SHOULD judge any fan of these insidious things. And you for enabling it.

while i’m enjoying this. i don’t think you are the person to have this conversation/deliver this information. this for future reference to help maybe help research more. But there’s a few factual eras. I’ve notice Kelly Rowland’s music career doesn’t compare to Kandi, Dawn Robinson, Meelah from 702, LaTocha Scott. Kelly Rowland has much more national and international success than all of the combine. Not the same as Beyonce but if we’re gonna have the conversation let’s make sure it’s fair. Also Beyonce didn’t join Parkwood Entertainment she created Parkwood Entertainment. That is her media company. This video is giving your reading from chatgpt sir. And this just the beginning of the video
