I'm not sure how it happened as I cross-referenced so many lists including my own, maybe I just deleted it off somehow, but regardless I hate myself for omitting Every Time I Die – New Junk Aesthetic as it is one of my favorites in their discography and ABSOLUTELY belongs at Perfection.

Degradead is such a stupid band name lol, doesn't even fit the music

Also, The Crimson Armada's debut Guardians came out in '09 and is a great disc, though kind of on the metalcore/deathcore fringe

I always found it ironic that the final track on that Killswitch Engage album is called "This Is Goodbye" and it was Howard Jones's last album as the frontman.

These videos are great because they take me back to being a teenager hanging out at Peabody's and seeing all sorts of random metalcore and deathcore bands.

Kickback and Gaza deserved to be included, so much better than the mid-core bands like Texas in July and For Today. But not a super strong year, obvious pick goes to Converge, Axe To Fall might just be their best.

For this year, I would've added Lye by Mistake and their album 'Fea Jur'. Whe you do 2010, please don't forget Morser; you've snubbed their 90's and 2000 material. Super underrated, especially from someone who doesn't like much metalcore.

We have the exact same take on that Zao record 😂

Also I love hearing you talk about Narrows! I grew up in the PNW and got to see them several times, they were always so good

you're the man for these videos trenches, i love this so much. This is the year of my favourite Architects album, Hollow Crown is so pissed off and heavy i love it so much. This Gwen Stacy album is a hidden gem to me and a classic to me and my mates. Coalesce returning in fine form with Ox in the same year as The Tropic Rot had that older style still kicking and then the big singalongs of TDWP and WCAR, just so much to look back on and enjoy all over again

This is really where the drop off happens. Some of my favourite bands of this era dropped some real stinkers, no surprise this is when deathcore really took over.

Iwrestledabearonce were always very underappreciated to me. Everybody seemed to write them off as the typical "sceney" band like Attack Attack! and I Set My Friends on Fire but they did some genuinely unique and weird stuff that nobody else was doing at the time.

I thought i knew the hallmarks of what Metal Core were. But seeing Between The Buried And Me and Burnt By The Sun on this list, I have to ask, what elements place a band in Metal Core?

Other albums that deserve a shout out :

The empire shall fall “Awaken” (Jesse Leach)
As silence breaks “As silence breaks”
    Steryle “foreshadowing yesterday”
    Forever in terror “the end”
    Confession “cancer”
    Maroon “order”

This was an awesome series. I found a lot of lesser-known bands that I did not know about during this time. From this particular list bands that I really did not previously know about that I’m interested to check out, the sorrow, vana also I am glad to see Barry tomorrow’s first album back on streaming because I had never heard it until last month and personally I think it’s their best

2009 was around the time I really started getting into Killswitch Engage with the release of their (then-new) second self-titled. Used to have a physical copy of it on CD I got from my resource teacher in high school until it got stolen… and I've never replaced it. As for the album itself, it's pretty underrated.
