Drumeo | November 19, 2025

Brooks Wackerman is here for an exclusive Drumeo session breaking down his work with Avenged Sevenfold! He performs fan favourites like “Bat Country,” “Almost Easy,” and “Unholy Confessions,” showcasing how he’s adapted Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan’s iconic drum parts to fit his own unique style.

He also reflects on his incredible musical journey, from his early years playing drums and joining Bad4Good, to his time in Infectious Grooves, Suicidal Tendencies, Bad Religion, and Tenacious D. Brooks shares how he first discovered Avenged Sevenfold on the 2003 Vans Warped Tour, how he eventually joined the band, and what it was like learning their material.

Along the way, Brooks opens up about recording ‘The Stage’ and ‘Life Is But A Dream…’, explaining how he influenced songs like “Mattel” and “G” in the studio.

Growing up with Wackerman as my BR drummer, I was super mad he left BR, but I'm glad he's still kicking ass. He's still my favorite drummer from BR. The dude is a beast. He's gonna kill it with any band.

I'm a Generator fan, specifically. I grew up with Generator. Because music access was difficult at the time, I was introduced to punk rock beats. Then, when I was in high school, AV7X reminded me of that familiar beat. I was immediately hooked on Jimmy the Rev. Then, when I had a family, it turned out my favorite band and drummer were on the same stage.

He reminds me of an older, mature version of Jimmy. Both visually and his personality. Like if Jimmy had the chance to grow into his 30s and 40s. It's truly wild to me. Love Brooks.

I love the story of brooks, little things like he hadn't played double bass since he was a kid before A7X, so the commitment and work that he put into being the monster you see now, and he wasn't super young so it wouldn't have been like riding a bike. He's just a cool dude and definitely worthy to take Rev's place in A7X.

never heard of a7x after the rev passed.
but today, a new drummer, nice.
i do understand that each drummer has their own 'signature', for a few times my memory of how the rev played any old songs are coming back and made me like "hey, thats not the way the rev played".
    but yeah, differ signature.
