I started this film last year and got about a quarter of the way into it, then got busy with something and forgot to finish it. It finally popped back up for me today and was able to watch the rest. What an incredible film. Looking forward to the next one.

Is Dominic Francesco Giseppi the best comedic actor ever or am I high on shrooms too, he was amazing! I love the blocking in this film and everyone was on there A game I can’t believe this was a one take film and improvised, I’m speechless this is what movies are all about, this inspired me

This has to be your finest work yet Joel. The actors did such a good job taking on these characters. I believed every one of them. The writing and direction was amazing. My surroundings melted away as I got lost in the story. I felt embarrassed with Darren, laughed with the damsel in distress and the pink masked criminal. I rooted for Trent’s character to do the right thing, and was relieved he didn’t have to kill to save the damsel. I could go on and on. The interwoven plot lines were timed so well, with suspense and payoffs keeping me on the edge of my seat. It all resolved so nicely too. Cherdleys and Trent’s living room moment, the damsels date with the cabinet seller, the class reenacting Darren’s outburst, the bloom festival with the marigolds, and then the filming of Darren’s ex’s next big hit (gotta love the look in her eyes as she herself gets lost in the scene as the actors nail it). That might be my favorite moment in the whole movie.

Bravo joel. I have a trauma history, and have had to face the shitty ways i treated people to avoid that fact. This helped me to come to terms with some of the locked shame I have from that period.

I keep seeing praise, and "Joel you're great" and "that was a masterpiece" and I enjoyed the movie, but I've only found 1-2 comments actually explaining what was great, or even attempting to dissect the themes in the movie at all. I was hoping to find some insight on that, but I'm not sure if everyone else is just seeing something obvious, or everyone is as media illiterate as me. Do Joel's films have a "point"? Can anyone explain it?

Wow. So much to unpack here. The way the movie ends with one person who is simply replaying the same scene in her head. Bludgeoning it almost to a pulp and it gets her somewhere. Yet she hasn't actually gone anywhere. Just stuck on the old. Yet The main character is still an idiot, but at least he's trying to move on. Amazing.
