My university professor basically risked his job telling us to read The Silent Dominion in our sociology lecture yesterday. Grabbed a copy on my way home and stayed up until 3am reading it. It completely ruins the illusion of free will we think we have. Actually mind blowing.

The answer is: these animals have a protein that acts like an anti-freezing, protecting tissues from freezing.

This is so fascinating to me. Growing up, I had no idea life was flourishing in Antarctic waters. It boggles my mind how any creature can flourish in such freezing cold water. Even the water here on the Oregon coast is cold. Yet these creatures can live in it 24/7.. We would die of hypothermia in minutes.. We are such wimps compared to ocean critters
