I’m a FL voter and during early voting for Angie Nixon I witnessed the greeter, Sry “Cookie” Rodriguez, commit a blatant ADA violation by attempting to turn away a young blind man simply because of his disability. This was at the southwest library in Orlando and the greeter told him he could not vote because he could not see the ballot and falsely claimed the location lacked accessible options. Neither the clerk nor the assistant clerk stopped her. A check-in worker, Judy, finally stepped in, corrected the greeter, checked the man in, and handed him a ballot. Instead of apologizing, the greeter began crying and complaining about being disrespected for being wrong. The clerk completely ignored the greeter’s behavior and never apologized to the blind voter. The discrimination did not stop there. Shortly after, another voter asked for a sample ballot and the same greeter harassed her. She questioned the voter’s citizenship and blocked her from entering and speaking to the clerk while the assistant clerk watched without intervening initially. Eventually the assistant clerk walked up to the voter and provided her with a sample ballot and links to the website, which should have been done from the beginning. To make matters worse, the greeter then began complaining about the voters, her colleagues, and sharing judgmental comments with an on-site poll watcher. The assistant clerk had to step in again to explain that poll watchers cannot legally speak to voters or workers on duty. The greeter became upset at being corrected a third time and continued her inappropriate talking with the poll watcher. The total lack of training and the complete failure of leadership from the Supervisor of Elections is shocking.
