Minor correction:
Saying "German" typically refers to the modern state of Germany, including the people and language associated with it. When you want to refer to the historical people/ culture/ etc, it's more proper to use the term "Germanic," as it refers to the broader range of lands and people, bound by language commonalities.
For example – The worship of Odin, Thor, Freyr, etc, is a Germanic religion, not a German religion, practiced by people from modern day Russia, all the way west into Britain!!
Edit – The borders of modern day Russia show the easternmost extent that Germanic Paganism was historically practised (around 1,000 years ago). NOT that it's currently practiced in modern day Russia – it isn't.

I find it hard to believe that ancient people would believe that nonsense about sneezing and your soul leaving your body.
HOWEVER – Christians believed (and currently still believe) some uproariously ridiculous things. If you were to tell me that early Christians believed that nonsense about sneezing and souls leaving the body, I would 100% believe you!!

Interestingly – copper and silver are both HIGHLY antibacterial. By throwing bronze (or copper) and/ or silver coins into a water source, you're helping to make it safe for human consumption!
I don't know if the Romans were aware of this. However, by the medieval era, people would leave a silver coin in their milk jug and this would help the milk to last much, much longer, without any refrigeration. Of course, you'd have to be able to afford and to spare a silver coin…

I switched to Dvorak layout – the US Navy says a typist can achieve the same speed level in 20 min and surpass that speed quickly. I found that true. The advantage i that it is MUCH less strain on the hand, cutting down on carpal tunneling. In this case maintaining the 'tradition' is actually causing health problems and cutting back on efficiency and speed.

I'm your Stormy Godmother. My name is Maria (pronounced Mariah). It was from the 1941 book "Storm". Maria, the storm, was the antagonist in the book. "The soft Spanish pronunciation is fine for some heroines, but our Maria here is too big for any man to embrace and much too boisterous." The book's success is part of the reason the US meteorologists began naming storms after women. Also the song "They Call the Wind Maria" is the same name.

I heard it was people said "bless you" because they thought your heart stopped each time you sneezed so they said it to "revive" you

Perhaps leaving something of value near water would lead others to it (for example birds would go to the free food) hence being able to find your way back to it and survive

January 26, 2026 at 2:47 pm
Another reason for people say bless you is that people thought that your heart stops when you sneeze

There are 26 letters in the alphabet… maybe they weren’t being sexist, maybe they just started with women names and continued until they finished the alphabet, then turned to men!✨
