Here’s an introduction to math rock! I’m giving my perspective of this crazy subgenre, a band/song that’ll help you get into it, and some must-know bands as well. From American Football with Never Meant, to Don Caballero, Tera Melos, Toe, Piglet, and Polvo: this is math rock.

These short snippets are pissing me off. Might as well play nothing if you are only going to play two seconds.

It highly stimulates and soothes the inattentive adhd brain. Listen to Yowie, Horse Lords, and Dawn of Midi.

Hmm, I hate it. Not for me but I get why people like it. Amazing guitar players for real. I tried listening to a couple different math rock bands and although it's not for me…how the hell do they all find these mad men on guitar? Pretty much every guitarist I heard was a fucking gifted mofo. 😆

What I noticed about polyphia(I know they are not like the others) the songs feel soulless. Math rock is like a shit ton of potential but chaotic robotic. There is no story , it's a journey without a destination

Kate Bush was a pioneer in unusual time signatures. At a time when most songs were written in common time, Bush did 9/11.

I have been listening to Polvo since the mid 90s. The bass player's dad taught driver's ed at my highschool. I don't understand why so many people lump them in with math rock. They're basic 4-on-the-floor rock with Arabic riffs and odd tunings. I love them. They are not math rock.

My favorite math rock band – Don Caballero
@TeslaNick2
December 11, 2025 at 8:55 am
I love math bands. Don Cab are so good. Math sort of reminds me of fusion bands like Mahavishnu Orchestra.
Enemies were another excellent example.
