I’m so glad you discovered this album. It has been one of my faves since it came out. However, his NEXT solo album – The Squire (1975) – is EVEN BETTER. I’m sure you will love “One More Bottle of Wine”, “Golden Oldies” and “Squire”. The worst song is a cover of a rock standard – odd choice in my opinion. I’d love to hear your review of this album.
I’m off to listen to all my Lindisfarne and Alan Hull records now. ❤❤

bought this album at an antique shop a year or so ago for little to nothing, it was £5, knowing nothing about it and just buying it for the cool cover. was worth it and didnt expect to see it on here!!! hell yeah

Great to see Alan Hull featured on your Vinyl Monday video slot, I saw Lindisfarne many times back in the 70s, used to sing 'Fog On The Tyne' in the glasshouse in the Ormidale Hotel on the Isle of Arran, great times!

Lindisfarne named themselves after the small island that lies a couple of miles of the coast of Northumberland (Where Newcastle is situated) in the North Sea. Two tracks were taken from the album as singles in the U.K `Numbers` (Travelling Song) and `Justanothersadsong` (That`s how the title is written on the record) Sadly, neither charted. Lindisfarne did actually reform and scored a No 10 UK single in 1978 with `Run For Home` In 1990 they teamed up with UK Soccer Legend `Gazza` (Paul Gascoigne) to reach No 2 on UK charts with `Fog on the Tyne (Revisited) `

Loved Lindisfarne. Acquired their first three albums and loved them . I have a couple of the later ones, post split, the odd decent track but they lack the humour, warmth and humanity of their earlier stuff.
I also have Pipedream. It's up there in the top 5 of my favourite albums. Such a varied collection of tracks, all brilliant in their own way. Quirky. Tongue in cheek. Soulful. Meaningful. Wistful. I like them all.
You didn't mention that the final two tracks, Blue Murder and I hate to see you cry, are joined musically. The sequence of bass notes ending the first song getting replaced by the piano chord of the second on the sane beat. It's a nice touch.
I saw Lindisfarne in late 1972, when they were on tour with Genesis as support. I enjoyed seeing them, but read later that they hadn't been happy with the gig. They didn't play an encore which surprised me at the time.
Shame this album didn't do better, it is a great compilation of songs. Another solo work of his called Squire, linked to a film he acted in, isn't a patch on this one.
Glad you reviewed it, it's worthy of a little love now and again.

Goodness me. My parents met for the first time in the Rex Hotel, Whitley Bay, back in the mid fifties. Uncanny to see it appear on this channel, of all places.

It's "Shoot Out The Lights"! And a Fairport Convention album with Richard Thompson and Sandy Denny would be stellar. "Unhalfbricking" is a favorite and "Heyday" is a collection of BBC Radio sessions covering many American and Canadian folk tunes by Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and others.
