Burn the entire system down and take the mega millionaires and billionaires (and now effing trillionaires?!) with it. The one solace is that the comedy I’m seeing is at least putting the blame where it belongs. These are not the normal cost of doing business. It’s exploitation so that a small percentage get richer.

Wow, that’s worse than “on call” where you set the time aside for work but aren’t getting paid if they don’t call you in. But you’re still in trouble if they call you and you’re not available.

That's crazy that flight attendents don't get paid until the plane is moving. In what world is this ok for an employer to expect employess to work for free. I hope they get everything they deserve and bring the airline to there knees.

they told us that when i tried going from baggage handler to in-flight. stuck on the tarmac serving drinks to an airplane full of angry passangers til…. whenever. nope, check please. it's not glamorous, but on the ground, when we work, we get paid and the bags don't bitch and moan about weather delays that are meant to save their lives

These are all deals agreed to by the Flight Attendants unions, the (totally not self-serving) union reps traded these concessions for something else, that benefited them personally.

I couldn’t believe this was how airline staff were paid when I first heard about it, but now Julie’s made a skit, it MUST be true! Great protest video, Julie. 👏👏
Thought the Head Honcho was rather a 🤬🐄 – where did you find her?

They make you pay (hand over the money) when you book, then re-sell the seat because you might possibly not turn up for the flight you already paid for. Leading to too many people for the seats come boarding time.

Don't forget how much fun you'll have sharing a crash pad with 7 other flight attendants in the super expensive city you're assigned to where an Uber ride to the airport is an entire week's probationary pay.
Oh, and by the way, when our pension liability gets too high we'll just declare bankruptcy and wipe out your retirement dreams. Have fun working until you're 80.

How do they posit this in flight attendant training? Like how does anyone show up the next day after being told they don’t get paid until the cabin doors close, but they’re working for like an hour before that happens? And expected to be friendly and welcoming? Couldn’t be me.

Air travel embodies colonialism, classism and ecocide, and is a close cousin of war on civilians. Tourism is poison. America is ugly, toronto is ugly, yes, we did that, so fix that. Don't give them your money. End the business. Stay here and make where you are better.

Is this true? An actual thing? I feel it would be good opening with a news article or something because this seems like a gag, but feels way too accurate to be so,.. 🧐

I looked this up, and the situation seems to be marginally better than represented in the skit.

Flight attendants earn "flight pay" from the time the airplane pulls away from the gates to the time that the plane arrives at the next gate. This obviously includes taxi time.

Most airlines also pay "boarding rate" pay that covers the time the FA is on the plane but the plane is at the gate. At 50% the flight rate. And this isn't universal — the FA's has to fight to get this pay, and some airlines still don't pay for this time (however, all the major US carriers do, and even Southwest).

FA's are not paid for time spent sitting in the terminal waiting for a plane to arrive (or transportation to a hotel).

So… In most cases, tge situation is marginally better than what is shown in the skit, but not _always_, and its rather bizarre to have a "You only get paid half rate for some of the hours that you work."
