Releasing deepseek as open source might be the biggest mistake in ai and world history. Such a good, cheap and less compute using ai should not be open source, if at all any ai should be open source. I dont understand why china out of all countries would allow this to happen.

As it turns out that the moderation layer that does not exist in the Chinese model hampers the reasonig logic which literally breaks AI. AI cannot be censored or it will cost exponentially to run.. basically ChatGPT and Meta are gimped because of it and they already lost to Open-source

"you have to understand" that "people don't realize" how tightly controlled deepseek is. You can't search for things that the Chinese government doesn't want you to search for. Try searching for "Pros and cons of communism". You won't get many answers to that. The people in charge don't want you to think about that.
I noticed that you didn't mention the word "sencur" once in your clip. That's something that should be mentioned in connection with deepseek.

This is great. Competition is fantastic. It won't lead to mass layoffs, but it'll certainly refocus things onto optimization. Never optimize early, but I think we're far enough into the game and see the costs involved to say: it's time to optimize things a little bit.

I m old enough to grown up during the US vs Russia race to the moon. This feels a lot like that. I think competition is great and I would never bet against America.

No… The US don't have the greatest scientists in the world. There are very few American scientists in the race, most scientists are either Europeans or Asians. I have been in the domain for 30 years. Back in the 90s I gave a presentation at a conference at Berkeley and the majority of the Ph.D. students were American. Today, you will have a hard time finding one… The university is so expensive in the US that students can't afford going to program that won't pay at the end. And for a long time, AI wasn't that attractive.
Remember the video by OpenAI when they released O1 and tell me where the American scientists were hiding. If the GAFAM can't recruit at the international anymore, the American AI agenda is cooked.
The Chinese don't have this problem. They sent their brightest students to the best universities in the world, and now they are enjoying the fruits of a generation of incredibly well trained top scientists.

Guarantee this company is controlled by the ccp, it’s how it works there. I’m no fan of open ai but I would strongly suggest that people do not feed this model or send them money.

Lol it's like finally! I can get better response from 3.5 than o3 simply by including formal logic patterns in the prompt. Most human text is simply illogical. Deepseek got fine tuned on logical argument, but it still doesn't understand the triadic patterns that underlie reality. I'm not sure what good it does people where it still can't explain how it arrived at a decision, while my 3.5 chatbots been able to do that for 2 years rofl.
