Great tribute Pete. Grew up playing KISS on tennis rackets. I was 12 & I was Ace. My intro to rock. Bands like Rush, AC/DC, Ted Nugent, April Wine & Van Halen followed. Damnit, our heroes are falling. FLY HIGH SPACEMAN

Ace was the ozzzy of KISS. Had his demons and battles but totally down to earth and self depreciating when talking about his “talent” or his past life. If I ever wanted to have a drink with one of the members from KISS ace no doubt (well he will have ginger ale I guess instead) lol but those were the kind of jokes Ace had. Never bragged about being with 4000 women and getting Polaroids of all of them. Just happy to be there

I've never been a super big KISS fan, but I've always had a tremendous amount of respect for them as performers and showmen as well as an appreciation for how much influence they no doubt had on tons of my favorite bands and musicians.

Been watching a few old videos and interviews of KISS (Like the Tom Snyder interview from 1979) and I feel like Ace would've easily been my favorite member if I was a bigger KISS Fan he seemed like he was the life of the party.

RIP to the man and thanks for all the influence he's had on so much of the music that I love.

I was a 70s kid – and KISS was my favorite band. It's probably difficult for people who weren't around then to realize just how HUGE KISS were from around '76 to '78. They were truly omni-present – magazines, comics, action figures, TV movies, lunch boxes, posters… I didn't know about Zeppelin then or Deep Purple then – but Ace was my first guitar hero before i even knew what a guitar hero was. Thank you for this tribute. And thank you, Ace – for being a big part of my childhood formation. You fuckin' rock .

Ace Frehley, R.I.P., was an anomaly, he never learned music, he never took guitar lessons, he couldn't read musical notes, he was a self taught guitar player and he was good enough to be the guitar player of Kiss, he also had the most successful solo career among Kiss members, his solo album from 1989, Trouble Walkin' is my favorite, Ace and his laugh will surely be missed!!!

Even though I've never liked Kiss or been a fan of Ace Frehley or his music I sympathize when fans lose their favorite musicians, bands, athletes, actors, etc. As I keep getting older I watch as my favorite musicians, bands, athletes, actors etc. keep passing away it reminds me of my mortality slipping away. I've got way more yesterdays than I have tomorrows.

I’ve never been a Kiss fan. I did buy Destroyer in High School, not long after it came out, to check what the band was about. I only liked maybe 3 songs on it. So they were a band from then on I looked down on. Whenever I heard them being praised on this channel, I’m one of the scoffers. You guys actually like Kiss! Go figure. I’m not expecting that to change, but… but… yesterday I decided to listen to the first Kiss album, a first for me. I’d only heard a few songs from it before. The production wasn’t good, but to my surprise I liked the guitar work between the two guitars. I like hearing at least two distinct guitars in music. I was impressed that’s what the album delivered. Even on lesser songs I liked the guitar playing. I did not expect that I would think, this is an album I should listen to again, & I’m also thinking of hearing the other early albums.

Kiss was my favorite band as a teen. I got to see them in 75 when I was 14 for my first concert. To this day I remember the excitement and anticipation that I felt when my friends older drove us to that concerts in his van. We were smoking doobies in the parking lot before the show. It was fun growing up in the 70’s. RIP Ace! He was always my favorite band member.

I collect GUITAR PLAYER magazines…Jan 1979 has been on my Want List forever. Ace Frehley with his black Les Paul on the cover. Full disclosure: I have never bought a Kiss album…I am still genuinely interested in Ace's back story & his thoughts on guitar & music. It's a cool cover, FWIW.
I do have the issues immediately following the Jan 1979 Ace cover. Letters to the Editor? Some were/are complete a-holes.
    RIP, sir…

I was 5 in 1975 when my dad passed away. I latched onto Kiss and that's all she wrote. I think Ace and I would have been kindred spirits. We are both goofy misfits. R.I.P. Ace..

Ace was still very original and greatly influenced other future generations of guitarists. Totally agree with you that his performance on KISS Alive was amazing. His melodic riffs on many tracks made KISS legendary. I also have an interesting story to share regarding my father who til this day despises rock music but the one song that would make him dance and happy was New York Groove
