I wonder if there’s a way to make a semi-generative patch that would approximate the synthesizer scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind…

Lol, I had no idea – been watching your channel for years now and I didn’t realize you were “The Flashbulb”. Fantastic music and channel!

ZOIA Firmware rev. 4.20 is Here:
latest post rev, 3.20 changelog additions:
4.20 (November 20, 2024)
————————
– Bug Fixes
– Reduced the amount of data that each sequencer module occupies within a patch. This addressed
issues that previously prevented some patches from saving correctly.
IMPORTANT: Patches containing a sequencer that are saved on firmware version 4.20 (or later)
will not load correctly on earlier firmware versions. Please back up your patches
before updating, as this lets you restore your patches if needed.
– Fixed a slight DSP increase that was introduced in firmware 4.00.
– Fixed an issue that was causing certain screens to occasionally become unresponsive.
– Fixed crashes that were happening while using the built-in sample rate converter.
– When modules with a 'rate' control are set to BPM mode, the rotary encoder now responds
to acceleration. Turning the encoder quickly will cause the BPM value to adjust more rapidly.
4.10 (October 11, 2024)
———————–
– Fixed a bug that was causing the pedal to become stuck scrolling through preset names.
– Removed the automatic factory reset that happened upon entering LED calibration.
4.00 (October 8, 2024)
———————-
– Sequencer Updates:
– Sequencer CV Step Behaviour: sequencer step can now be controlled by a
CV value. In sequencer options, change "behaviour" option to "cv step".
– Sequencer CV Ramp Output: along with CV, gate, and ratchet, a new
output type called CV Ramp has been added to the sequencer. It ramps
linearly between CV step values.
– Sequencer Key Input: You can now input cv values into the sequencer
steps using a CV input. Adds two new CV inputs: key input note and
key input gate. When key input gate is triggered, key input note is
programmed into a sequencer step. The "key input" option determines
which step is programmed:
– key input: active: the active (or currently playing) step is programmed.
– key input: selected: the selected step is programmed.
– key input: increment: the selected step is programmed, and then the
next step is selected. With this option, the "queue start" will
reset the selected step.
– When using the Sequencer Key Input on a ratchet output, a keyboard input
of C will set the ratchet to 0, an input of C# will set the ratchet to 1,
and so forth.
– Sequencer Pages: you can now have a sequencer with more than 32 steps.
Now instead of selecting how many steps you want the sequencer to have,
you select how many visible steps you want the sequencer to have. There
is a new option for selecting how many pages you want your sequencer to have.
When you make connections to the step buttons, you are connecting to the first
page of the first track.
– to step through sequencer pages, select a step button, and then press page
up and down while holding shift.
– Sampler Updates:
– Mono and Stereo WAV Support: the sampler now supports both mono and stereo
WAV files, with a new 'channels' option allowing you to select the number
of channels.
– Additional Bit Depths: 8, 16, 24, and 32-bit WAV files are now supported.
– Optimized Waveform Generation: .WFP files are no longer generated at startup.
Instead, a .WFP file is created when a sample is loaded, reducing unnecessary
file creation.
– Sample Rate Converter: While samples must still have a 48kHz sample rate for use in
the sampler, a built-in sample rate converter now allows you to convert individual
samples on the fly. For converting multiple files, batch conversion on a computer is
still recommended.
– Improved File Selection: The sampler's file selection menu now supports an unlimited
number of nested folders and samples per folder, removing the previous limitation of
64 files per folder.
– Bug Fixes: Resolved many bugs and crashes that were present in version 3.0.
– Display Improvements: Increased the screen's refresh rate, resulting in faster and
smoother scrolling.
– Increased the maximum size of FAT32 partition that is created by the Format SD option
in the config menu to 128GB.
– Euroburo headphone volume is set to a default value upon each reboot.

I just got the ZOIA Euroburo a couple of days ago. I explored the factory presets and when I started listening to "24 skating alone" I felt like "it's so beautiful, that has to be one of Benn Jordan's patches", and the patches you shared here confirmed that <3

I'm looking for a first unique pedal that could work well to use specifically with a digital piano (For Piano, Rhodes, strings and synth sounds). I'm aware of the "Zoia" and the "Macrocosm" which would you recommend between the two? Any other great alternative you can recommend me?
Thanks!

Is it the video filter applied, or the artistic “negative space” in frame that renders the text illegible?

I just got the Zoia, finding my way around it slowly, mostly just using it as an expensive effects device for now.
I assume the patches you did for it here are from a generative random probability setting in it that doesnt repeat?
How difficult was the patch programming on a scale of 1 to 10, (10 most difficult), those do sound great..
Debating if its worth hanging onto, since so many other devices can do what it does as a synth etc…, although it does so much more for $400 price tag … kinda does seem like a real value. thanks.

Any chance you will do a video or recommend a video or two detailing how you do your glitch drums and drums in general. I've already started to implement your idea of playing midi all the way thru the entire song to break out of that loopdey loop syndrome which naturally adds movement and interest. cheers

Is the Zoia good as a first guitar pedal? I recently started noddlin and it would look cute next to deluge too.
