A rare ‘blonde’ wolf captured on camera

Voyageurs Wolf Project | August 11, 2025

The first “blonde” wolf we have captured on camera here! Certainly a very rare coat color for wolves in this area as we have thousands of videos of wolves and none quite like this one! And by blonde we mean the light, creamy colored fur around the wolf’s neck and shoulders!

We have only seen this wolf on camera once. We do not know anything else about this wolf other than it is not part of a pack in the area (i.e., it is a lone wolf). We will see if shows up on camera again sometime soon!

absolutely stunning ! could it be a hybrid ? nat geo posted an article in 2011 how some coyotes migrated eastward towards great lakes and mated with the wolves , could it possibly be a coyote hybrid ?

It's a shame but they are likely a reject from the pack that managed to survive early-on by itself. Such a beautiful creature. I hope they find some happiness somewhere.

I knew someone who had a female blonde wolf chained in their yard 22 years ago and she was 2 they had her brother too. The story I heard was her friend would down to One of the States we are Canadian and when the moms would leave the den she would snatch some young ones. When I was told this I was appalled and told my friend so. But with the way they are hunting and murdering them at an alarming rate maybe we all should snatch a pup or two and share around. Those two wolves were damn nice animals tame could take food you could pet them. They were chained because of neighbors not that they did anything wrong. The owners walked them they were exercised. In the end the male was given to man who lived 2 miles out of town and I saw him and wolf everyday on their walk plus he did get fixed.

what a beauty! I wonder if they're a dispersal from a nearby pack and are looking for a mate… I'm kind of hoping they'll find someone and settle down in the area tbh
