Foreigner – All The Albums Ranked – Worst to Best
Foreigner are a band that are often dismissed by many as being too schloppy and AOR but their early albums had some great rock stuff on them. But which is their best album?

Do you agree with me that Lou is the greatest rock singer of all time?… Or at least the greatest voice.

Unusual Heat, Mr Moonlight and Inside Information are great albums and extremely under rated.

I'm sorry but nothing that came out in the 80s was nearly as good as their 70s material. I just disagree completely with your placement of any of their 80s albums ahead of the 70 stuff.

Lou Gramm is my favourite singer. Bon Scott is my favourite frontman

I’d think that 4 is indisputably #1! Double Vision is a killer album too. And is my #2.

HEY BARRY HAVE YOU HEARD THE HALF SPEED MASTER 45rpm OF FOUR
@davescott8825
August 8, 2026 at 12:24 am
Their first was their best, in my opinion, followed by Double Vision at second place. I kinda lost interest with them after that.

Good to see you doing a Foreigner album ranking! I did my own ranking earlier this year in April though only have the first seven albums. Played them back to back and ranked them on how much I enjoyed listening to them in the moment as opposed to how I believe they rank `technically`.
7. Inside Information
6. Agent Provocateur
5. Foreigner
4. Unusual Heat (many years ago I`d have ranked this at no.7 but everytime I play it it grows in my estimation and appreciation. Particularly like `I`ll Fight For You` and `Only Heaven Knows`).
3. Double Vision
2. Head Games
1. 4
Cheers Barry.

Unusual Heat at the bottom, a disgrace! Should be higher in the Ten list.

Earlier this week " Foreigner " played the Ampitheater in my town. People were so excited that "Foreigner" were coming town and they were charging premium prices to see this glorified tribute act. I was all over Facebook criticizing this money grab. Now I'm a purist and when I go see a band I like knowing that I'm seeing the people that played on the records. Not one person on that stage the other night played on the records and that should piss people off but unfortunately people are stupid.

I would say 4 is the band's best album imo,due in part besides having their big hits,it also had very strong album cuts like I'm gonna win, Woman in black, Nightlife ,& Girl on the moon.

Well played. You have my attention.
Thank You for just going thru and giving their albums a decent look-over. I did a Top 10 of their stuff several years ago. Just to have 10, I included THE VERY BEST & BEYOND, their 2nd greatest hits package from 1992.
I chose …BEYOND over their 1st compo, RECORDS, because …BEYOND has the AP & II singles, the studio "Hot Blooded" (RECORDS included a live version) and "Starrider," which I enjoy, tho' I miss "Long Long Ice Cream Cone" from 31 RECORDS. I am fond of the 3 new …BEYOND songs, but that's a whole different post.
It'd take a while to find my old list. But no big deal. Hearing your take was fun, thank you.
LATAH From Stranger And Still…HCCringo (or just 'ringo if there's a quick ?)

I would rank “Mr. Moonlight” in my top 3, after “4” and “Head Games” (“Foreigner” and “Double Vision” round out my top five).

Long Long Way From Home great song and a fantastic opener in concert when I saw them yrs ago

Rating albums is very subjective so I usually don’t pay attention to critics. I base opinions on how the music makes me feel at time and how I connect with it. With that in mind I would pick any Lou Gramm vocal over the rest followed by JE and then KH. Unfortunately Foreigner have sold out their reputation for $$ when a dignified departure would have kept their status intact
@drmusic3641
August 8, 2026 at 12:24 am
"Do What You Like" was on "Head Games" not "Double Vision"
My list goes as follows:
9. Agent Provocateur
8. Mr Moonlight
7. Cant Slow Down
6. Unusual Heat
5. Double Vision
4. Inside Information
3. Head Games
2. Foreigner
1. 4

Foreigner never were arena cock-rock, and Mick Jones never was a virtuoso shredder. They were something better. The band were 3rd generation pop-pastiche artists with much in common with ELO, Hall and Oates, and The Cars. Mick Jones composed sharp, dramatic guitar parts similar to The Rumour's Brinsley Schwarz. I prefer the punch of the first two albums (you missed "Blue Monday" from Double Vision) to the muddier sound of 4, which got more cred because of the all-star presence of Mutt Lange, Thomas Dolby, and Junior Walker. Still, even "That Was Yesterday" was a nice bit of heavily-synthed melodrama. Despite the sometimes snickering double-entendres, there often was some psychologically interesting content in their lyrics.
Thanks for highlighting an underrated, misunderstood act.

Well buddy, I would agree with "4". I really flipped over that…..but I had "Double Vision at number 2…..great content, love the production, keep on truckin buddy….Be Well & Good Health (the alternative sucks)

The Double a vision TOUR was great. Ian McDonald really made a difference those first two albums on live shows.

I still have a couple of their albums but not listened to them for years. I saw them at Wembley on the Agent Provocateur tour when they were riding the peak of success. I quite liked Two Different Worlds from that album and Lou Gramm's voice was always excellent. Interesting fact regarding the Thompson Twins, I never knew that.

1) Foreigner
2) Double Vision
3) 4
The rest are shite.

It's a shame that Foreigner is pretty much a tribute touring act now.

Whether or not I agree with the ranking I think people should consider the notion that what makes Agent Provocateur so easy to roast is probably what makes it hold up more than 40 years later. If nothing more, "I Want to Know What Love Is", my favorite Foreigner song, it's going to be around long after we were all gone and continuing to capture new listeners' imaginations. Back in June 2026, I had the pleasure of going to see Lou Gramm performing solo in the Connecticut town of Stamford, and that was easily the highlight of the concert.
@ShadowCommander1167

Fill my eyes with that album ranking. "Mr. Moonlight" is a very underrated album that more people should check out. 🎸

do what you like is of head games as for inside information sure would put it a lot higher mr moonlight never rated it as for 4 girl on moon luanne dont let go never mad on those tracks first album is there best then provoteur then inside info then double vision then 4 the two records without mr gramm to me are not foreigner
@RichardW001
August 8, 2026 at 12:24 am
I sold my copy of Agent Provocateur. The first 4 are far better in my opinion.
@jeffp6072
August 8, 2026 at 12:24 am
1-4 for sure. The rest have a song here and there but not much else. Head games for me would top the list. I will say that Lou Gramm is one of the best lead rock vocalists of all time and sorely underrated I'm afraid.
@michaelsmyth3935

I have some very strong opinions on Foreigner. First three are purty good. 0:24
Head Games
Foreigner
Double Vision
4
……a song here and there after 4.
