Sen. Mullin: A Cherokee Citizen at the Helm of Homeland Security?

Join host Sean Griswold for a high-stakes roundtable discussion on the political shakeup sending shockwaves through Indian Country. Following the ousting of Kristi Noem, President Trump has nominated Senator Markwayne Mullin, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, to lead the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Is this a historic victory for representation, or a complex paradox for tribal sovereignty?. Our panel of veteran native reporters dives deep into the nuances of this nomination and what it means for the future of federal-tribal relations.

The Panelists:
Levi Rickert: Publisher of Native News Online.
Graham Brewer: Associated Press reporter and author of the 2019 profile, “Markwayne Mullin is for Trump and Indian Country”.

What We’re Discussing:
– The Paradox of Leadership: The “irony” of a Native American overseeing U.S. immigration policy and whether Mullin will prioritize the President’s agenda or tribal concerns.
– The Tribal ID Crisis: Addressing reports of tribal citizens being detained by ICE and having their DHS-certified “Real IDs” disregarded or destroyed.
– Ending “Indian 101”: Can Mullin’s inherent understanding of sovereignty and treaty rights bypass the typical education process required for D.C. lawmakers?.
– Sovereignty & Contracts: A look at the recent backlash over million-dollar ICE contracts involving tribal entities and the struggle for economic development that respects Indigenous values.

Featured Insight:
“Representation matters… but I’m not confident that ICE or the administration’s cruelty will change.” — Deb Haaland, former Secretary of the Interior.

Mullin, does not look Native American Indian at all! He looks a 100% White American, he needs to do his DNA to prove that he is Native American Indian! Henry(Apache/Yaqui) AIM, California USA

Attraction to a racist fascist criminal and loyalty to a pedofile rapist liar is not healthy. Tragic to see the such a creepy weird sleaze appeals to anyone.

"When the axe came into the forest, the trees said "At leat the handle is one of us"
Just kidding, ICE are of course the Guardians Of Our Nation and not some goons. Maybe since he is Cherokee and the flag shows a star Native Americans could pin a "Native American star" on their clothing to save officers the time to ask for tribal identification?
