This is exactly what happened to me with red dwarf and was my first interaction with red dwarf. I saw the interior crocodile elegator meme of alternate rimmer sky surfing on an alligator.

i think i understand your point about the original ending and its point being lost a little, but i think you're both underestimating the need to creatively adapt the original material, and overestimating just how literal that ending is.

there's no reason at all for us to interpret Rosalynn waking up to an entire pack of wolves crashing through her windows and into her room as any more real or authentic than anything preceding it – if anything, it plays back into the idea of her dreams straying into stranger spaces and situations.

i also think it's much more cinematographically satisfying than a literal adaptation of the scene in the book would be – it's compelling, sure, but it doesn't at all work as the end for the feature-length film, because the visuals are not quite strong enough for that format (not in the case of this film at least, which doesn't really do "subdued" as much as "fantastically bizarre").

the way the film is weirdly structured is maybe what i like best about it, so i personally have a lot of appreciation for just how obnoxiously loud and slightly unhinghed its ending is! i've always loved it.

I recently watched a Japanese film on Netflix called “Once Upon A Crime” that I think you would enjoy. It’s about a smart detective-type Little Red Riding Hood who meets Cinderella and has to solve a murder when they attend the ball together

Ducks and ESPECIALLY geese can be very aggressive when threatened, so I don’t blame that actor wolf at all. A swan can break bones with a well aimed wingbeat, if you’re dog and/or child sized.

When I was a kid, my sister and I always watched Silver Bullet. It is a werewolf movie from 1985 starring Gary Busey and Corey Haim. If you’re gonna cover all those movies from the 80s, that would be an awesome one to see! It is hilariously bad.

The frogs symbolize the irresponsible use of genetic technology to wait- nono, hang on. Frogs symbolize both fertility and treachery. Fertility I get – tadpoles galore. Treachery I am not clear on, but I can't see their eyebrows.

Does Roses actually think that Rosaleen has awoken from her dream and is then killed by wolves for real? Umm… no, she's clearly still asleep (one of those dreams where you awake within the dream) and the wolves are still a metaphor (in this case the loss of innocence and the world of men now ready to pounce on her). It's about the fear of becoming an adult and all of the dangers and responsibilities which becoming an adult entails. It's not an inferior ending to the shorty story, it's just a different ending.

It occurs to me that the ending to this film only "ruins" it, if you are already familiar with the short story upon which it is based. I grew up with this film and I love it to this day, ending and all. It's like saying that Kubrick's The Shining RUINED Stephen King's novel, which is a sentiment shared by King himself and only his most devout of fans, but virtually nobody else (and rightfully so).

6:09 i figured granny was just winding up a ball of yarn from a hank. one of the ways to do it is to have someone hold the hank while you wind, which would explain why rosalie or whatever the heck the younger woman's name is is just sitting there. but also maybe theres other shots in the movie that shows them not doing that lol. anyway yeah sometimes knitting is just rewinding a ball of yarn, especially if you've been pulling it from the center. they tend to fall apart after a while when you do that.

It is interesting that this was directed by Neil Jordan who also did Interview With the Vampire and The Crying Game. I love your humour and take on old shows, especially Murder She Wrote.

I am so glad you covered this movie! I didn't mind the ending. It was a bit disappointing, but the movie is such a fun experience in terms of beautiful imagery and music. It was surreal, fun, and I haven't come across many movie likes it.

9:40 "It’s weird, but remember, this is still a dream: Weird things happen in dreams. I just dreamed last night that I was romantically linked to Eminem, so…."

The Red one or the Yellow one?

She wasn't 12, she was 14. Not that it's better, but just stating for clarity. She could have been 11, but I don't know when the film was actually shot. Just that it was shot in 1984 and she was born in May 1970.

Ok so it’s a mixed bag to me. On the one hand I actually kind of get the ending being a horrifying reminder “Oh yeah people suck and real life is just brutal and it will punish you for your innocence.” On the other hand I agree, it was building up more to the protagonist making her own decision, for better or worse, she made her own choice but the ending ruined that idea by having a horrifying event happen to her that wasn’t her choice at all.
