Everyone has a different style. You won't like Josh Johnson if you mainly like fast-paced, punchy one-liners, for example. Those same one-liners you're throwing me here again and again though because there's only so many possible combinations of one-liners and most of them have been done already.
Josh Johnson combines the storyteller comedian with the newscaster comedian and we use personal stories then relates it to the news. I can tell just from his comedy alone that he's constantly writing down his experiences in his notebook and analyzing them. The way he tells stories and uses recent events allows him to create a ton of new content consistently. I think there are a lot of comedians out there who could do what he does if they change everything about how they approach comedy, but that style isn't their style and it would feel weird coming out of them.

*The only people who are mad are the jealous ones & the haters. This shows that there are truly LEVELS to everything, in this case Comedy; Josh is thinking so beyond most 'comedians' of this era (Neal, consider watching a bunch of old comedy specials like Pryor & Eddie Murphey, Carlin & Bill Hicks, because you are essentially the opposite of funny and you clearly need to re-educate & re-dedicate yourself to the craft ~ or just remain a dismissive, negative podcaster;)… Josh is THE Smartest & most insightful Comedian in the game right now. Legacy is Real.
The only people who are mad are the jelly-ass haters 😉

I dont get the big deal, late night hosts come up with a monolog every night. thats all your doing your just not constrained to 10 minutes or so. Its amazing but hardly a threat to the industry.
I hope you do it forever. as a comedy junkie your my newest hero. Keep it up we need the laughs

This is my second watch of this episode. The conversation is part interview, part personal exposition, and super compelling to me. Josh Johnson’s gets better later by layer.

I think both of them are kind of correct. 9 out of 10 times I see comedy as kind of progression where the comedian makes it, the audience enjoys it, and then both mostly move on to the next thing.
Neil has helped write comedy moments (standup and sketch TV) that have stuck to my brain for decades. I will always think back to a few key moments and forget the rest. Josh has helped to make the moment I'm in funny (standup and Daily Show). His older standup bits are still great, they're just a bit more polished because he told them more than a handful of times. I probably won't go back to either comedian's full catalogue, but the way they discuss/frame something changes the way my brain processes/stores a memory. Just because I listen to a comedy podcast involving the news every week doesn't mean that I think that I don't want to see a new standup special on HBO from a standup I enjoy.
They're different kinds of comedy, and no comedian needs to be jealous, unless they wish they were doing the other style, and tried it but failed.

Neil, 😢 you came off pathetically stale, like you’ve been asleep. Josh will go far, watch him! 😅

When your Set-Ups are like 10 minutes before the „punchline“ than yeah.. you can „build an hour“ every week.. lol

I don't think Josh's output is making comedians mad as much as it is just making Neal mad :p

This is sort of random, but related to your discussion of legacy and how you are remembered. The episode Eulogy (S2E6) of Better Things is a fanatastic mediation on why people perform, the work that goes into it, and the indifference you think you may be getting from your loved ones. It's a brilliant series, and I think about this episode a ton.

I never understood how he gets 500k plus views on his channel but when he's a guest on someone else's it's NOTHING! Your saying his 600k plus fans don't follow him to the other channels for support. I've only noticed that with him🤔
