I've had to wake up at 2am for going to work sometimes and I've never been able to sleep before 12-1am due to… Well, almost always having to wake up at 7 to 8am, so I'm one of those psychotic creatures in public transport sometimes!

Thanks for this stream. It's always charming to hear about how everything has been going and I hope good things still continue happening.

I quite liked having the behind the scenes set photos in the credits. You make it look so effortless in these videos, like you snapped your fingers and it all came together by magic, so I love getting to see the tremendous amount of effort that is actually involved!

Ok I'm watching late and remembering a season 2 video where you talk about feeling Big (it resonated with me because I'm a cis woman who also feels Big sometimes) and watching you celebrate your bench press and strength and Amazon feeling makes me so so happy- and hopeful! Because I'm at the gym 1-2x weekly, doing rapier 1-2x a week, and that joy in my body and pride at what it can do sneaks in <3

I think you can make a good comparison with video essays in math. Understanding something has two parts 1. being able to mechanically do it, 2. understanding or having intuition for how the mechanisms work. Video essays will only help with part 2. If I watch a 3blue1brown video about say, calculus or linear algebra, it can help me with the second part by providing me a good intution for what I am doing, but the first part, the mechanical act of doing it, is something I have to do by myself by doing exercies and test questions and maybe trying to do some proofs myself.

With history or philosophy, sure, a video essay can be a good introduction, but unless I can also explain the ideas myself, or apply the ideas in a text I wrote myself, then I don't really understand it.

This is why (good) college courses are part instruction, part exercise. It's essentally an enviroment where you're provided a bunch of information, opportunities to apply said information (with essays or exams or other hand-in work), and can ask peers or the professor or a TA for help.

I've only heard about your channel on the video essay about video essays (I'm from Brazil, so I blame on the algo-lack-of-rhythm for that, tysm) and gee would I love to see you as Doctor Who! <3 <3 <3
Thank you for all your effort and dedication. Huge huge hugs from halfway across the globe!

Here I was, sitting in Western Canada, hearing about how Jefferson made America square and wondering why Canada is square too. Maybe it's hip to be square. Oh, nevermind, she explained now.

I guess I'm the only one who was bothered by the shirt. 🤷‍♀️ Its just that that concept (tight/loose 🐈) has been used to degrade women for so long. There's usually a massive amount of objectification, misogyny, and bullying behind the use of the term. It's used to sl*t shame, devalue mothers, seggsualize minors, and to generally base women's worth on something that utterly misrepresents their anatomy and is beyond their control, regardless. I've heard the tight and loose versions used in so many hurtful and disgusting ways that I just don't see it as tshirt worthy. I'm probably reading too much into it and have no idea what the reference is, so my thoughts might be irrelevant but it was bothering me too much to not say something, in case I'm not the only one. Lots of other people here seem to love it, so maybe don't listen to me. You look super cute, anyway. Just something to think about.

I read books while eating when I'm out (or sometimes at home for breakfast or a midnight snack), and I watch TV & films – or sometimes play text/cutscene-heavy games – while eating when I'm at home. But at the same time, they're right that reading is a more active process. I think I only absorb info slightly better from reading than from watching a video essay, but I also think my ability to absorb information is more impacted by ADHD in the case of reading than it is in the case of watching, so in the absence of ADHD (and by extrapolation I'd imagine this is true for neurotypicals) I'd probably absorb a lot more from reading than I would from watching

What you say about YT's pandemic boom/bust aligns with what I've observed too. Many of my favorite youtubers from that period are producing less often, but their quality is generally better. I certainly don't mind, as there's so many to choose from now. And many of those who decided to leave their regular jobs to make YT a full-time job are now going back to their jobs, at least part time. And of course, folks are finding their work-life balance, which I love.

Watching this back it's like looking at myself trying to be coherent when I have forgotten to take my ritalin for three days. Very eloquent! So scattered. Quite amusing

Your mic volume varies wildly and I have real difficulty understanding you.
Your sneeze was actually louder than your voice, because you went closer to the mic by turning away.
Can you look into the pickup range on your mic or have someone help you adjust your setup?

16 hours after the live stream, YouTube decides to show me this video!

I've been hearing so many LGBTQ+ channels being suppressed since an orange person became elected

I was terrorized in a psychiatric institution when all I wanted was to be taken to an equivalent of a gender identity clinic in Germany. Your videos help me a lot. Thank you for existing Abigail. Wish I could build a staircase up to you with all the books I'm halfway through.
