Loved this one, Joel. So sweet. So honouring to your mother and her story and personality. <3

I remembered Joel doing this, I didn’t keep up with the movies, which I plan on completing now, but having remembered that Joel had challenged himself to do this, I had thought that he did this challenge in 2025… wtf, where’d all the time go, passing us by.

Your Piano and singing skills get way too little attention, I know it’s not perfect but playing an instrument you haven’t 100% mastered while singing a song you haven’t practiced a lot is incredibly difficult 😅

This made me think, just how different life could be if I had a mom or dad I could sit down and sing music with growing up. Life is weird, insane at times when you think about it.
Anyway, this was a nice ending to the challenge you set yourself on and thank you for letting us tag along.

Took me almost a year to set aside the time to watch all 12 of these, but I'm so glad I finally did. What you did here is not just an impressive technical accomplishment but in fact an artistic triumph; a dozen films full of beauty and humanity and sadness and humor, all made in the span of 12 months. You're easily the one artist to inspire me the most this year, and I aim to carry that spirit of creativity into 2026 as I'm looking forward to both wrapping up old projects and starting new ones with my friends. Thank you, Joel, and I hope the next year will be a good one for you.

My mother died in 2008. Never cried. Never grieved. Until now. Thank you. Thank you very much Joel.

It makes so much more sense that Joel is Canadian this whole time. He never really fit the American or California vibe at all. This explains everything, eh?

Love this so much! Growing up in both Northern Maine as well as the coast of Maine, I can relate to this film so much. My daughter messaged from college a couple days ago telling me I had to watch this. I took notes all the way through and can't wait until she wakes up to call her and discuss. Maybe this hit so close to home because I just dropped her off at school for her first year away from home. Thank you, Joel, for sharing a little slice of your life with us, and I hope we get an update on your mum's new homestead at some point!

I'm going to an art camp for film in one week. Yesterday, I told this to someone. They told me they were related to Joel haver and I'm incredibly glad I met them, because if I hadn't, I would have never discovered Joel. So excited to make my own shirt film. Thank you for all that you do man. ❤

I'm so happy to see this. I live in New Brunswick (the better side of the Bay of Fundy) and I just love seeing the grey/brown thickets on the side of the road covered in wet snow with people being happy driving about. Scotia is so beautiful though and it's real heartwarming seeing your mother so excited to be back home!

Lost my mom in my very young adulthood. I never got the real chance to have this adult relationship with her later in life, this hit me hard. Great film, Joel.

when i realized the snowman's predicament was a projection of joel's…thats when it made this all hit so much more deeply. having watched the other related films about joel makes this all really click together. you are doing amazing work joel, would rather watch your movies than anything else being produced.

when you announced you were gonna make 12 movies in 12 months, I decided to wait until you finished all of them so I could watch them all back-to-back over the course of 12 days.
I am glad I waited until now to watch all of these films because I am currently at a very difficult crossroads in my life: Go to a university for 4 years and feel nothing, be unfulfilled, and be depressed, or risk it all doing what I love. Your films have shown me that rather than choosing the 'safe' option of having enough money to live comfortably, that it's much more fulfilling to do what you love and go crazy with life's risks, better to make a million mistakes in one's lifetime than ponder upon a million "what if's?"
These movies themselves I love especially. No two movies are alike, you're perhaps the most experimental filmmaker of our time and I hope you wear that with pride.
I do like the lack of music in these, it helps to make them much more atmospheric, you can just immerse yourself in the atmosphere of whatever scene is going on and take the characters in.
I definitely gotta commend you for not having any 'villains' in these films. There's not a single character who is out-right plain evil for the sake of evil, you genuinely give each character a chance to prove they're human and let them show the viewer what they're about, without coming across as "sympathise for me please!"
Thank you Joel, for these 12 films, I will be looking forward to what you'll make in the future,
love from Romania <3

Okay i´ve been taking my time to watch every movie you did last year to pay the atention that i know they deserve, and must to say this is probably one of the most emotional movies i´ve ever watched. I can not put in words what made me feel like, but can say that it´s so beautiful in the way this movie goes on so organically, the feelings, the nostalgia, the gratitude, every part of the town that got a memory. Gorgeous movie!, so happy i found this channel almost 3 yrs ago and become part of this community by expectacting all of your amazing work. Not lying when i say you have inspired me so many times with your artwork. Greetings!
