Just by seeing your pre-germinated pumpkin seeds, it's already 100% clear, that you will not be the one winning the pumpkin contest, sorry.The seeds have already been in the wet paper for too long. The roots are not looking like winner plants. You are not starting early enough – again! And, for heavens sake, why would you start with so few seeds? Yes, I know that these are only the "direct seed" experiment, but for a growing contest, you have to take absolutely every step serious. And it wouldn't have cost you anything to start with five or ten seeds for every place you consider to grow a pumpkin plant, so you could select the best plants some weeks later. And does anyone think that Alfred would walk around with a pre-sprouted seed, looking for a place to plant, then just scratch some dirt and weeds away and put it there? I don't. He would have prepared the patch earlier, placed several seeds, put up some protection from snails, slugs, birds and bad weather. It's not that hard to do while the plants are small.
It makes me sad and somewhat angry, when someone's lacking any intention to win a contest right from the very beginning, but still talks as if he would be participating in earnest…

If a cow was pregnant but loses the baby what happens? Do you have to get the calf removed from the mother?

Went through same thing with geese, hatched two, mom hatched 3 more, so we only have two. Next year I'm busy taking them all.

RE: Naturally Hatched Ducklings
Please put the mother and her ducklings into a maternity ward enclosure such as the movable A-shaped ones you once used. The family will be outdoors and you can choose when to let them out to roam during the day. The highest survival rates are when the ducklings are in a safe, controlled environment for a number of days. This will also save the little ones from death by storms.

It’s so heartwarming to see the farm family grow! Ariel’s new heifer calf (2:42) is absolutely precious and a wonderful addition to the herd. Love the dedication to keeping the animals happy and healthy—even when the bulls try to cause a little extra mischief on the farm!

Please keep the duck and goose with their duckling and goosling in a separate place till 1 month at least, otherwise their mortality rate will be high in that wide open pasture. From Kurdistan with love to your farm.

Blue Jays and crows occasionally will grab baby ducks or chicks and eat them. They may be just too little to be out and about.

Didn't you used to put newly hatched baby birds into a 'tractor' type structure with their mums for the first couple of weeks after hatching? Just to give them time to get strong enough to follow their mum around the farm/pond? Maybe, particularly as this is going to be a year when there are very few hatchlings, that'd be a good thing to go back to?
