The Most Intense Shoegaze Album of 2026: A Deep Dive into Nothing
Modern shoegaze band Nothing’s “A Short History of Decay” traces Domenic Palermo’s unflinching look at aging, trauma, and physical decline. Six years after “The Great Dismal,” the band returns with new music and it’s their clearest and most vulnerable record yet. It’s built around Essential Tremors left raw in the vocals, a direct confrontation with an abusive father, prison scars, and the slow erosion of the body. From the heavy shoegaze foundation of “Tired of Tomorrow” through the darker tones of “The Great Dismal,” the album closes a fifteen-year circle with massive walls of sound, dry intimate vocals, harp and brass accents, and total honesty concerning the exact weight of time. This is a review and the story of the album that is likely to be a top 10 or even top 5 record for 2026.

NOTE: Final clip was incorrectly listed as "Never Come Never Morning" but it's actually "ACD." I don't often cover brand new music, but another I dug into recently looks at the meteoric rise of GEESE: https://youtu.be/98d1_YM9uL8

I watched the first 0:55 seconds of this video, was immediately intrigued…sampled the album, purchased it and have listened to it three times already today. Fu*kin LOVE IT! I guess I can now watch the rest of this video, lol. Also, I’ve decided to finally purchase my first turntable so I can start listening to LPs. I’ve been over digital music for some time now and I think I’m ready to be an old man now at 45 years old.

I got the ltd ed yellow sparkle! Shits so good! Just proof that punx write the best music! Any good band in the indie, emo, shoegaze etc. fields are probably blasting cro mags or pig destroyer on their headphones! Because it's the backbone! Even Stephen malkmus started in the hardcore scene! J mascis will wax poetic about negative approach long before hell tell you he likes the new neutral milk motel album! And Thurston moore is probably listening to Void right now!!

One of the best albums in 2026 so far, it literally captured me. I also thought about a parallel with DIIV (one of my favourites ever) ❤
