Those who fall for this corporate gambit are AIDING and ABETTING this. The day I pay someone a tip to HAND me what I paid for instead of ACTUAL top service at a restaurant is the day hell freezes over. Don't be a part of the problem. Now, if you liked this public service which you didn't even ask for, I'd appreciate you "buying me a coffee" for about the same amount as that OVER PRICED cup of coffee that started this conversation. *THANK YOU*

When are we going to end tipping and get these CEOs to pay a living wage?

That barista character? Deserves a name and more appearances. I like her. Well, I like hating her, which is as good.

It is so funny but it is also so sad. Because it is 100% true. The world has gone crazy in so many ways.

The whole idea of tipping is so stupid.

i’m so happy that this kind of tipping is not a thing in my country. no one demands it and people only tip waiters once in a blue moon if the service was exceptional

I see it as a dark pattern. And as all dark patterns, it pushes me away from that business.
I was about to buy something at an online store for a great price, when I realized the site has session replay. Closed tab.

A tip should be about the quality of service also upto the customers discretion.

The tip trend is just another way businesses get away with not paying their employees. I’m not someone who believes every job should provide a “living wage,” but this really is one of the scummiest corporate tricks I’ve ever witnessed. Pay your fucking employees instead of guilt tripping your customers into doing it for you, you sheisters.

People gotta understand that these businesses are not actually requesting a tip.
What has happened is that most businesses have moved away from old traditional POS systems that usually included the big clunky cash registers.
Now, most businesses are using the more sleek and mainstream handheld credit/debit card terminals.
These terminals are a "one size fits all" solution to ALL POS systems.
So they have the tip question automatically included because half of their clients are restaurants or service based businesses.
Since non-service based businesses are using the exact same terminals as the service based businesses, the tip question automatically pops up.
That doesn't mean that the business is actually asking for a tip.
That's just the default protocol for the terminal.

Apparently in Canadia you also tip using a label maker… Those guys are SO far ahead of the rest of us

I’ve heard and subscribe to the idea that if you’re standing up, no tip. Also, why has the percentage expectation gone up? The beauty of percentages is that they scale automatically, so why is 25% being pushed so brazenly?

There's a simple way to avoid "mandatory" tipping- invite friends over to dinner, rather than spending a lot more at a restaurant.

I do tip still, but that's only because I avoid eating out for the most part. Even when I do eat out, I go to one of a handful of places that don't request a tip.

You know, I have absolutely no problem hitting the no tip button. When I eat out and have table service it’s usually over 20%. If there is a counter involved, fuggedaboutit.
