New NES Games in 2026?! + More Retro News!
Homebrew is absolutely on a roll in 2026 🎮🔥 Mega Cat Studios is kicking off the year with a triple physical-cart drop for classic Nintendo hardware—Super Fanger (SNES) plus Plyuk and Old Towers (NES). Three new reasons to dust off the old consoles? Yes please. 😸✨
Plus, Nintendo fans get a surprising “free” win: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (a pricey GameCube gem) is essentially available via Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack—but there’s a catch you’ll want to hear about.
And because we’re living our best retro timeline, we take a quick nostalgia detour into forgotten ‘70s hits like Shark Jaws, Sea Wolf, Combat, Space Wars, and Galaxian—games that were huge once… and then poof. 🕹️🌟
👉 Drop a comment: are you buying modern homebrew on real carts, or sticking to emulation?

Come on, now, Combat isn't at all forgotten. It was the pack-in game after all! Good grief. And Galaxian? Come on. This list is a joke!

All, please keep sending George lists like this- priceless reactions to Combat and Galaxian. Forgotten games indeed- not while we GenXers still live, they're not!

That list is definitely AI slop or at best AI generated then edited by a human who had little idea of the subject matter. The spiel on Combat says you could play against the computer. In no universe could you play the computer on Combat. I wish you could because, once my brothers got tired of my new Atari (it took them all of a few days) I had no one to play it with.

Just let you know that cussing doesn't do good for your Channel, YouTube will put you at the bottom for that, kids watch this channel and I bet Jon would not like it!

Maybe they figure that we GenXers are getting old and senile and forgetting everything 😂

Doom on a Crock Pot, how about Dragon Fire on an Air Fryer?! I am starting to think there are some people who create these lists that know George will go off on them, so they create them just to see the reaction George will have.

I understand your argument about the game being free because your paying for online access and cloud storage so the games added would be a bonus and considered free BUT to get Fire Emblem you have to PAY extra for the expansion+ pass which is to access games only, no other service comes at that tier just games, so in that instance you are paying extra to be able to play Fire Emblem so i dont think it would be technically considered free.

One game that we don't really talk about a lot anymore is Battlezone. We have the Atari 2600 one. However I haven't seen an official release of the arcade one in years. Don't think Atari has rights to it anymore right?

I don't know if we could submit things or not.. But Gameshark cheat code compendium is currently available up at Kickstarter. Filled with artwork, stories, cheat codes, and history. A lot of the stuff taken from old retro gaming magazines and put together as a nostalgia piece.

Ok that is officially the 💩list ever, great righteous rant George 😈

The list started off strong with Shark Jaws. Sure, I know it, but I am an Atari fan. Most people have probably forgotten it. Then Sea Wolf. I was like maybe. Sea Wolf has been remembered more than Shark Jaws. Then the coup de grace, Combat. Trash list.

LOL and I 100% agree with the Atari takes.

Combat? Never heard of it? Was it like Super Mario Bros? 🤣 Seriously though, I have fond memories of Combat. Me and my brother used to sit down and go through each variant and keep score on a notepad to see who won the most games. I suppose it's possible there's plenty of people that didn't live through this era that never heard of any of these games, but we are not that demographic. I've heard of Sea Wolf and played it for sure, but prior to this video if asked me to name old arcade games, I'd have to get pretty far down the list before I came up with Sea Wolf, if at all. Recently I showed a friend a youtube video that asked you to name old games by screen shot. I was surprised that despite being the same age as me, he barely knew any of them. I thought it would be easy, because I knew them all. Lol, keep doing the lists though, your reactions are good content 😜

I love me a George rant and this one was well deserved! It wasn't clear to me if they were talking arcade games vs. home consoles since the games mentioned were mixed. The only people who wouldn't recognized some of those games, specifically Combat, Space Wars, and Galaxian, are people who live under a rock and/or were born after the year 2000. Thanks for the news George!

Yes, we have purchased mega cat studio games before. Everything has been top notch quality from the build to the gameplay. Sometimes they have sales on their ETSY page.
Great episode George! My fiance and I love your contributions on the GenXgrownup podcast. We have started going back and listening to you guys from the very first episode. My fiance gets a kick out of you wanting to fight line jumpers at the conventions. Great stuff! Keep up the great work, George! You ROCK
