I figure part of the issue with the more outlandish cures is that a stone or killing a cat won’t negatively affect the patient, so the survival rate doing those things would be higher than the doctor’s direct intervention, driving the superstition forward

Fun fact! You were pretty much fucked until WW1. By then the only thing killing you was yourself due to the inability to handle the atrocities and violence you had committed to your fellow man… 😊

I wouldn't survive pre-industrial medicine, and as an American, I can't afford the modern stuff. I'm dead either way~

What's interesting is that despite being off at least 60% of the time, the type of magical thinking practised by medieval doctors kinda laid the groundwork for modern science, which is all about looking for connections and explanations.

In the 1800s, people started believing in homeopathic medicine because it was getting better results but that's because it doesn't do anything at all and that was actually better than what doctors were doing to patients

"When you throw up and you feel better?" No? Never has that been the case. Who feels better after stomach acid burns your esophagus and nasal cavity, causing excessive tears and pain? Normal people confuse me.

I want to maybe request non-generated subtitles for your videos, because it's sometimes very hard to hear what you're saying because of auditory processing disorder. My brain just kinda struggles to comprehend spoken words without text to follow sometimes. It wouldn't be to hard to do if you have a script for your videos. I think a lot of you're audience suffering from the same affliction would probably really appreciate it

But it's nobody's business but the Turks.
