You did great at the tributes, Justin……and when Wolfie came out, didn't you think it was also, for that time, a tribute to Eddie….I did.
And was that a picture of Olivia on Josh's bass drum?! 🤔Hmmmm….

At some gigs these days, at one point I will take a quick picture as a cheap souvenir of the gig but those that film the whole thing and block your view and vibe annoys my old arse.

About people having their phones out at gigs… The period in my life when I saw a lot of live music was back in the 1980s and 1990s, and that was of course way before any iphones. I saw hundreds of bands back then, at arena concerts, music festivals and at smaller nightclub scenes. Not long ago, I found a ca 30 year old list I had made of all the bands I had seen live, and how many times I had seen them live… and I have to admit I was a bit shocked about just HOW many bands I had completely forgotten I had seen … AT ALL. I was just… What? I saw them, and them…? I was at that concert…? No way 😯

So there might be something to peoples' fear of forgetting, it seems we really do forget a hefty chunk of it 🙂

Still, I don't at all wish that I had had an iphone back then. The live acts I do remember, I remember because they were special and I really WAS totally engulfed in the moment.

A question for your comments day please.
It refers to in between songs when it's a quiet crowd. A great frontman knows how to get the best out of a crowd and is entertaining and engaging even with quiet crowds. I find this difficult as I'm not a natural entertainer and my awkwardness comes across. Do you have any advice or go to strategies to help with this problem in the hope that I can become more engaging with the audience. Thanks in advance and I love your channel.

Regarding filming, Placebo recently requested that the audience refrain from doing so. Before they came on (in Hamburg) there was polite request on the screen and a spoken message from the promoter. And what do you know, about 99.8% complied. Fantastic. Hands in the air instead of phones – and a happy Brian and Stef. Terrific show, too. Brian's voice sounding better than ever.

I had drank way too much both times I saw Van Halen. On 08 and 12, and had to use my phone to record it I was afraid I’d forget so much. But I did such a bad job at it it was almost a complete waste of time

I’m 6’4 and a bit so i can see thousands of phones at most gigs i’ve been too as i usually arrive late very very drunk and it amazes me how much money Apple have made from selling phones. ENJOY THE GIG. Although i do enjoy watching the footage on youtube afterwards.

You could always do what Tool does, like allowing the audience to take out their phones during one song. If you do it any other time, you get ejected from the show. You should try it.

We are living in an awesome simulation! When you attend a show, your eyes and ears are recording the experience! It’s in the master file. Put your phone down and groove! Righteous

Taylor clearly had broader musical tastes including Classic Rock, Progressive and Mainstream 80 Hard Rock. Frankly, that is less true – but not totally untrue – about people at the forefront of grunge like Dave Grohl. Perhaps that is a consequence of Kurt Cobain's Alt-Rock snobbery (he used to shit-talk Pearl Jam for not being Alternative enough) but frankly, as a Hard Rock musician myself I've had many concerns and trepidations about Grohl's attitude, particular towards Guns N Roses when he taunted them during the MTV Awards. These tribute shows indicate that he has a wider appreciation of music, but then again, maybe that was Taylor's appreciation – not necessarily his.

I refuse to even take a picture at gigs due to how annoying I find the whole filming thing. Totally agree people should be in the moment and treasure the memory and not focus on a phone where the quality will likely be shitty.

hey Justin, I admit I hadn't heard of you until watching the Wembley tribute show, but wow, you're an incredible performer & so down to earth and humble! you reminded me of a young Mick Jagger! ( who I saw first time around 1975) I've been rockin for over 45 years & without a doubt the energy & emotions in these shows is something I've never witnessed before & you were a huge part of it all!!

I didn’t know who you were until the Taylor Hawkins Tribute. I grew up with Van Halen. So I paid close attention to who Wolfie was playing with. Now, you’re one of my favorite You Tube channels. I love how you call shit….shit….when need be. Not everything can be great and you call a spade a spade in a typically polite British way while simultaneously thrashing the subject matter.
    Carry on my good man!
