ever wondered why we look at nostalgia compilations, partake in all the bad reboots and remakes of old shows and movies, disney being a large culprit in this? we feel used for our little worker dollars as big corporations take advantage of our soft spot- nostalgia. this happens in movies, tv, video games, music as 80s bops are coming back, and so are vinyls, ahem, miss taylor swift??

Just being late in the comments to point out that inflation and the new value of the US dollar (for instance, with Star Wars, when the 9th movie dropped in 2019, $1 was worth $2.57 in 1983 when Episode 6 released) makes some of these profits for newer exploits of older properties much less staggering. Obviously this is mentioned with other products later in the video but just being conscious of the movie madness specifically

Re: minecraft being nostalgic: the reason my dad is unable to get into it, despite the game consept literlaly being right up his alley, is because of the blocky look. He literally has told me (and this is direct translated quote) "I have had enough of the blocky style [in games]". Man's been gaming so long he can't get into minecraft

15:00 dont think you know what the new game and watches are… the zelda one plays original zelda, zelda ii, links awakening and the old original game and watch game.. not just the one monotone old game. are they worth $50? probably not, but theyre made well and are metal instead of plastic like the old ones. your description of what these are was way off.
then you use the emulation argument.. you can pirate most games, so why spend money ever?

For retro gamers who don’t want to spend much but still want to play on the real console and not an emulator. They make n64 cartridge shells that house sd cards which you can store dozens of n64 roms on and play them on your legit n64. For GameCube, just hack a Wii

Everything is a rehash of something from the past. Have we reached the end of imagination and creativity and everything has been done? For example, the possible combination of melodic arrangements of notes is not infinite but is vast yet there are only a few hundred arrangements that people enjoy. I think it is much the same with most art forms. A story could be anything but we are mostly only interested in variations of love stories and hero stories and the 20th century covered so many of the possible conventional stories that to come up with something new and unique is very risky especially when production is time and money intensive and in the interest of sustainable profit it makes sense to repackage proven concepts. Creativity may seem infinite but taste is a very narrow path
