Benjamin Tod, “Not Coming Home” // GemsOnVHS™

GemsOnVHS | February 2, 2026

Benjamin Tod and Barry Duvall gave us a little tour of the (said-to-be-haunted) Palace Theatre in Greenville, Kentucky. Apparently, these hallowed walls have been home to many noteworthy musicians of yesteryear. It seems that Muhlenberg county in general is the birthplace a lot of authentically American music from the past, as the local unofficial-yet-premier historian Mr. Duvall laid out for us. We’ve actually been working on a bit of a historic documentary detailing just that subject with this unlikely duo, but more on that later.

The first Muhlenberg Music Mission went off with a bang at the old Palace theater in Greenville, Kentucky. Mr. Matt Heckler played, along with Lost Dog street band and more. Before the show, at what could be described as “the sound check”, Benjamin Tod put on a show for the assembled few preparing for the night’s big charity concert. You could hear a pin drop in the room – mostly because it was empty, but anyone who was there was quiet for that 4 minutes of song Ben did here.

Preorders for Benjamin Tod’s 3rd studio album, “Songs I Swore I’d Never Sing” will be available June 14th.

coming home today….then coming home soon….then coming home late…to not coming home. This song sums up my past decade and hits that sweet spot in my soul that makes me kind of glance off into the air for a minute.,

Benjamin Tod has a style that is unmatched and very unique, his voice is soft and sweet but raspy in a good way. The way he tells a good story in every song is really inspiring. Keep it up Ben!!!

This man is low key one of the best songwriters I've ever had the pleasure of listening too. He uses very down to earth phrases and language, to paint a incredible picture of the struggles a lot of us live through, and have died from. At the same time there is an underlying message of hope, for those that are desperate to find one.

    Not Coming Home
    /
    Lyrics
    One, two
Can you give me all I need?
The innocence and purity I crave
    I've been climbing desperately
To a mountain top I haven't seen for days
An honest life I simply can't sustain
    Coming home today
All that's left inside of me couldn't bring an heirloom seed to bloom
I've only kept enough to plead for
Something that I can't believe is true
My goodbye may not be when you choose
    Coming home soon
    Follow me through empty streets
And bridges burned for hell to heed my fate
I never wanted you to see the evil I could never keep erased
Patient like a diamond in the slate
    Coming home late
Something pulls me from the clay, I can't make another day alone
I can't even speak your name
Are you just a thing to claim and hold?
Notarize my deed and watch me go
    Not coming home
Notarize my deed and watch me go
    Not coming home
