Remember When | January 28, 2026

#RememberWhen family movies didn’t need superheroes or talking animals, just Robin Williams as a dad, a disguise, and a whole lot of questionable decisions made out of love? In 1993, Mrs. Doubtfire turned divorce and deception into box office gold with the iconic film. This movie, directed by Chris Columbus and starring Sally Field, Pierce Brosnan, Matthew Lawrence, Lisa Jakub, and Mara Wilson, perfectly blends heartwarming family moments with hilarious comedy, making it a true 1990s movie classic.

OK, who else forgot just how chaotic this movie really was? Between the four-hour prosthetics, the R-rated improv, and Robin terrorizing San Francisco in full nanny drag, it's a wonder anything stayed on script. Which behind-the-scenes moment made you go ā€œwait, WHAT?ā€

I never understood the issue with the birthday party in the beginning. When i saw this when I was 14, and thinking about it even now at 46, all I can think is man Miranda is a bitch!

And holy cow did I have a crush on Lisa Jakub. This and independence day.

Hollywood is so strange about divorce! I remember it was kind of taboo in family films before this movie, yet it was so frequent in kids’ movies in the later 90’s, it was like they went from the unrealism of saying nobody gets/stays divorced, to the unrealism of saying nobody gets/stays married. Neither one is really a message I want my kids hearing!

This movie is WEIRD and I love all the actors and actresses in this movie but what Robin Williams character does is just disturbing and he would probably never get to see his kids ever again in real life. But it's a movie so whatcha gonna do. šŸ˜‚

Minor detail: the photo you have of Tom Ray is of a different Tom Ray. Tom Ray the animator died in 2010, the photo you have is of a sepsis survivor named Tom Ray taken in 2019.

Mrs. Doubtfire's hair is similar to how Tess did Anna's for her wedding rehearsal in Freaky Friday. That's just my opinion and I never thought about it to now.

This movie (well, Williams in so many of his movies) have so many understated but hilarious lines.
Stu – Where did you say you were from? Your accent is a bit muddled.
Ms. Doubtfire – Ooooo, so is yer tan!
šŸ˜† I adore this movie so much.

The reason Robin's character works so well is because his truly kind soul shines through all that make and prosthetics …a True Kind Soul….Miss him so so much 😢
