   This is one of those ‘do you remember where you were when…’ events to for my brother and I. We live about an hour from Duluth. Neither of us remembers hearing anything about the shipwreck until a year later and only because of Gordon’s ballad. I was 11, my brother 10. It was our grandfather’s 60th birthday, Nov 10, 1975. It was a cold day but water was open on the lake and we caught our limits of walleye and we cleaned em up and brought em to granddad for his birthday and tho grandad was generally quiet he was happy and very chatty asking about the where and how we caught them. Now I’m 60 (61) and my grandson goes fishing and brings me fish. God rest those twenty nine souls. It’s likely I wouldn’t have this warm memory but for their cold demise. Not that anyone cares…
