The early 2000s were the height of Potter-mania, with a brand new movie adaptation of JK Rowling’s bestselling books coming out pretty much every year. The fourth book, Goblet of Fire, is when things got pretty serious and Voldemort made his big return. From being a face on the back of a guy’s head to being a tiny little baby, it really was a big journey for the guy.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire definitely raises a few questions. Like why do wizards insist on making everything deadly and dangerous for their kids? What is everybody even looking at during two of the three Triwizard Tournament challenges? Were the organizers really going to let some kids drown? Why does that ghost keep looking at Harry’s junk? Why is Dumbledore so ANGRY in this movie?

To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

"Wouldn't it be difficult for like.. 8 Death Eaters to take over an event populated solely by thousands of non Death Eater wizards who all could easily band together and beat the magical crap out of them?"
"No.. it will be super easy, barely an inconvenience for the Death Eaters"

    Turns 20 today!
One of my favorites in the series.
This was the point where everything was getting darker and more sinister. I'm still shocked they had the gall to kill off a character on screen. Robert Pattinson as Cedric Diggory and this was 3 years before twilight.
It's also about time these characters grew up and we got to see Voldemort in his true form. The Tri-Wizard tournament is awesome to watch, it's kinda like a deadly game of Olympics. Although a lot of this movie did feel rushed. Felt like they cut so much even an elf named Winky. Heck in the book the girls from Beauxbatons and the Durmstrangs weren't separate schools, they each had boys and girls in them. Even Nicholas Flamel who had the Sorcerer's Stone was left out. Plus the third task in the maze during the tournament had other creatures missing.
Rita Skeeter who writes for the daily prophet even had the power to turn into a beetle but that never happens. We never see what happens go Barty Crouch, Jr at the end but in the book the Dementor's suck out his soul.
Still this was a turning point for the series with Harry facing the reality of confronting the dark lord all over again but suffering casualties along the way.

I think it makes perfect sense for dumbledoor to be angry with harry. From his perspective the chosen one has potentially just killed himself by doing the stupidest mistake ever. Makes complete sense why he'd be like harry why tf have you done this

The more I watch Harry Potter Pitch Meetings the more I realize just how fundamentally stupid the books and movies were. I mean, .. wtf? So much of it is just terrible. It is full of plot holes. My wife, who I love, read all the books and watched all the movies multiple times … and I just don't get it. The material is just … I mean … I just don't … I can't find the words. And the idea that these insipid books and movies became world-wide sensations is actually kind of sad. Compare these YA books to, say, His Dark Materials, and it is night and day … with HDM miles ahead. Yet Harry Potter became the global phenomenon. Even the Disney+ series for Percy Jackson is markedly better than the Harry Potter movies. It is baffling to me. I think maybe JK Rowling is actually a wizard, and she cast a spell on the world — akin to Gilderoy Lockhart. It makes as much sense as anything I can think of. smfh

This was absolutely the worst book and movie of the franchise. I mean … if this hadn't been made into a book or movie, this would have been the perfect parody of Harry Potter. I mean … seriously … people rolled with this nonsense? My god, this kind of made me sad for humanity when it was so successful. Holy God … what are we doing?

    3 years late….
To be fair, in the book Hermione explained that the kids in the water weren't actually in real danger and they went willingly. The little girl would have been fine, the contestants themselves just didn't know exactly what was going to happen so Harry thought he had to save Fleur's sister cuz he's Harry, you know? Yeah that doesn't make it any less dumb, but at least it's not as awful as you'd think, lol…

Has Ryan George ever pointed out how at least in the first four movies, there was more or less one person (or living thing) who was actually someone else. First, Voldemort was living on Quarrel's head, then Tom Riddle turned out to be young Voldemort, then the rat turned out to be Peter Pettigrew, and now Barty Crouch Jr. kidnapped and disguised himself as Mad-Eye Moody

A dozen death eaters attack 100,000 witches and wizards and chase them away?

Isn’t that like a couple burglars trying to rob a police station while the police are there?

Remember the last movie when HUNDREDS of them attack a school full of untrained children and a few teachers and adults?

Kinda seems like a hundred thousand adults from around the world could handle a few death eaters.

It did my head in that the director made Myrtle sexually harass Harry and have some scenes (thankfully removed) where the some couples go inside the coaches and borderline get it on. Watchlist vibes

I’ve watched this pitch meeting several times in the past.
Today, while I watched the movie with my son, I couldn’t stop thinking about all of the things mentioned in this pitch meeting. I was laughing at the people dropping out of trees.

When I saw that they endangered kids' lives as part of a competition, I call quits. If you can bracket such gratuitous cruelty, you've got to be pretty insensitive to humanity. That's not something we should be feeding kids.
