WATCH LIVE: Trump addresses Israeli parliament as hostages released in landmark peace deal
President Trump is addressing Israelโs parliament after all 20 surviving hostages have been released from Gaza.
โAfter two harrowing years in darkness and captivity, 20 courageous hostages are returning to the glorious embrace of their families, and it is glorious,โ Trump said at the beginning of his speech.
The release of the hostages is the first phase of the peace deal between Israel and Hamas, with the remains of the other hostages expected to be released later on Monday.
Officials from the United States are also in attendance inside the Knesset, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, Joint Chiefs chairman Gen. Dan Caine, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and senior adviser Stephen Miller.
Ivanka Trump, the presidentโs daughter, is also in attendance with her husband, Jared Kushner, who helped organize the peace deal with Steve Witkoff.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the Knesset in Hebrew, thanking Trump multiple times.
Netanyahu also excitedly spoke about the return of the surviving hostages.
โThis is your first visit to Israel since you recognized Jerusalem as our capital and moved the embassy here,โ the Israeli Prime Minister said. โThank you for recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.โ
Netanyahu then spoke in English, speaking to Trump and thanking him for the United States’ policies that benefit Israel.
โThank you for recognizing in your 2020 peace plan our rights in Judea and Samaria, the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people. Thank you for withdrawing from the disastrous Iran nuclear deal. This is only a partial list, but itโs enough to affirm what Iโve said time and again โ Donald Trump is the greatest friend that the State of Israel has ever had in the White House,โ Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu said that he is โcommitted to this peace,โ listed in Trumpโs ceasefire plan.
According to Netanyahu, Trump has displayed โpivotal leadership in putting forward a proposal that got the backing of almost the entire world.โ
Amir Ohana, the speaker of the Knesset, addressed parliament members while praising Trump, saying that โno one is more deservingโ than Trump to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, promising that Israel will nominate Trump next year.
โThousands of years from now, Mr. President, the Jewish people will remember you. We are a nation that remembers,โ Ohana said.
Ohana thanked Trump multiple times, saying that โnot a single person on this planet who did more than you to advance peace,โ and expressed his gratitude over Trumpโs continued support of Israel.
After his address, Trump will travel to Egypt to join a Middle East peace summit.
Trump and more than 20 countries will discuss Gazaโs future.
In addition to the hostages being released, 250 Palestinian prisoners who have been in Israel since Oct. 7, 2023, are also being released.
As Trump entered the room to give his speech, the Israeli Parliament broke out into applause that lasted for several minutes.
