I bought stuff off Romwe before I knew how bad it was, and some of them have Shien tags. Its like corpo mitosis. I bought moss balls off wish and I got little clumps of dried up dead moss in the bags X3333. I also bought an Electric Ryobi tool off wish and I still use it years later lol…
Cadmium is highly toxic, and it's still used in products today.

It is especially sad for the artists and creators that are genuinely putting in a lot of hours and hard work to make beautiful things, just to be ripped off or drown in the sea of cheap drop shipping crap everywhere. Its probably nearly impossible to get your shit seen on Etsy now, or similar sites. And a lottt of people dont know how to tell what is real and what is fake.

Tried it and trust me not worth it. You have no idea what you're selling. I'm not comfortable with putting my name on something that I didn't get to check for quality.

Etsy has become the worst for it in my opinion. I go onto Amazon and know that I''m probably going to have to buy what I need from a dropshipping, keyboard smash company (I try my best to look on Vinted first, but it's not always possible or feasible). I go onto Etsy and find myself having to go through shops with a fine tooth comb to figure out whether or not they're dropshippers.
Just as an example, I was just looking for a dog food mat as the one I had previously broke. I came across a shop that was selling a gorgeous customised one for £6.99 and was literally just about to buy it, when I went through their description and saw "[Shop Name] makes this item with help from Personalised Memento Company, Stoke-on-Trent, England" – a dropshipping company. I was especially annoyed because the shop description claims "Michael is our head designer and he has a real passion for creating unique and thoughtful gifts." As if Michael actually had a hand in creating any of them, given that he has 4 other "production partners" alongside PMC and I've seen many of his "unique and thoughtful gifts" being sold by other sellers who also use PMC.
Not affiliated, but I ended up buying one from Crazyfuryou instead since she actually makes hers by hand 🙂
Personally, I really feel like Etsy needs to make a clear distinction between "Handmade" and "Handmade on seller's own premises".

the whole jewellery industry ALWAYS has and always will be based on slavery abuse and forced labour, kidding yourself because temu at least had the ordasity to just carry on regardless.
As a little Fyi Hundreds of us first Etsy sellers removed ourselves from their platform over 10 yrs ago as a protest to their fleecing the seller approach. Etsy always will be and always have been,, profit first with zero F**ks about sellers..

A month ago I went to a local small business, it’s a store I visit every few months because they usually have good stuff for good prices but I don’t go regularly because it’s not necessary stuff, it’s mostly knicknacks, board games, books, note books, tarot cards, rocks, etc. but they have a few sections for other small businesses that can’t afford a physical location and could use the spotlight. My friends and I bought stuff from this one particularly cute gothy accessory table and… I got an ad to purchase the same things on amazon a few days ago.
I know Amazon does technically have a small business tab but it’s under a different name and reverse image search pulls up all sorts of Ali express temu bullshit.
So it’s getting to physical businesses too.

I've been saying this for decades now. It's so sad not to be able to discern between good products, knock-off, or worse, marketing for the real while sending you cheap knockoffs, which is what we see primarily on social media today.
I remember when Etsy became flooded by it… like they just likely bot scripted their way past the listing restrictions.
Ali-Express, Amazon, Temu, and a million popup short term shops… in the end, it's best to shop elsewhere, but thats harder and harder.
One of the worst things that I see about white label marketing is that they attach themselves to celebrities as a way to sell something that simply wasn't selling before it's like Pokemane in her cookies, or every move Logan Paul makes

I am actually kind of bothered that my mom buys me everything from shein for Christmas, even tho we definitely have money to afford a few nice things instead of a bunch of bad things. I end up getting rid of most of the stuff without ever wearing it because it’s made so poorly 🙁

Etsy has started doing that high pricing = lower listing thing, too. But with them it's even worse because hand-made things DESERVE to be priced high due to labor costs and the unique nature of it. So when someone else sells drop-ship earrings for $15 vs. $40 the dropshipper wins the algorithm.

I always go to amazon first, find an item I like, then I go to ebay to find it usually about a dollar cheaper without needing $35 in my cart for free shipping. Then I see if I can get it cheaper straight from aliexpress. And then I still get it just as fast as if I ordered it from the US.
