Classic Album Review | September 26, 2025

Roger Waters ‘Money’ has seen a huge backlash against it o nsocial media. But could this be a misunderstood endeavour? How bad is it really?

I wonder what that bug is, Waters has up his dark side. He's had it all his life, it's just had different targets, from societal concerns to his former bandmates. When that anger and angst, perhaps, is directed into his music, it serves a purpose. But using Pink Floyd music to feed that bug, is putting the cart before the horse…

Roger, you're a brilliant songwriter, but man this is a piece of crap.
All the apologists are going to disgree of course. It's the emperor with no clothes on…people are afraid to criticize someone because the perceived wisdom of the masses is that the person is good or important.
I can hear Gilmour laughing his ass off somewhere!

After calming down and listening to what you said about it, I'm going to give it a listen in it's entirety when it's available to stream somewhere, but I probably won't buy it. I view it as no different than Page/Plant's re-recording of Zep classics, or whenever a band does an unplugged version of an old classic, or when a band re-records a classic song of theirs with a full orchestra backing them. It's not the same, was't supposed to be, just something interesting. I don't like nor do I usually buy any of those types of re-does I mentioned either.

I remember as a 15 or 16 year old sending a cheque off for two tickets for the wall at earl's court. Think they were £7-50 each.
I got a letter back, personally composed by the anti capitalism Roger Waters saying that I couldn't go to his show unless I sent a postal order as he didn't accept cheques. ( maybe it was the other way round, long time ago, but very very disappointed)

I found it to be interesting but not as good until the new spoken word stuff in place of a solo…embarrassing. I liked his version of Comfortably Numb much better even though he ditched the solos entirely. It had a certain respectable thing left to it even if leaving out the solo seemed childish.

It reminds me of Tom Waits 9th & Hennepin. A spoken word song with the music in the background supporting and accompanying the Narrator. Tom Waits as the narrator is telling the story of living in a decaying and corrupt town. Great song.

In a similar fashion, Waters takes this spoken word style. His poetry in the forefront telling a story of greed. With his Waits-like sleazy rasp being the embodiment of greed, and tells the story of money used as currency for corruption. I really love how the music emphasises the poetry with its slow, drunken, skewed and bluesy tone. It's a Great cover of this song, and I think Waters achieved 'the feel' to get the message across. If only people would just listen.

Great review. It's nice to hear a different perspective of Waters and his rendition of DSOTM. I'm kinda sick of hearing other reviews where they are just (what Waters would say are sheep), constantly slagging him off.

As he would say, 'if you are one of those people that like Pink Floyd, but don't like Rogers politics, then f**k off to the bar'

I agree with some Waters point of view. But I think I prefer listening to interviews or read text than listen to non musical songs. Why doesn't he create a totally new dsotm, it would be far more useful to express what he thinks today.
The fusion and contrast between music and lyrics are a fundamental part of the album. When you suppress all ornementations you end in a complete sterile lifeless world.

My view iis Roger is so bitter And twisted he has done it to spite David Gilmore I once had a great respect for Roger and he's masterful work but it was four people that was also immensely important in the making of dark side of the moon

Pink Floyd wouldn’t have made the impact they did without David Gilmour – FACT! Being a musician & artist myself for decades now Roger Waters problem is Roger Waters… There is no need for this to be released besides greed and money and for him to act like it’s all him and not a “We” which is an insult.

When I was 15 years old, I heard the DSOTM for the first time and I still listen to it. I wouldn't say that I do it every week, but I'm sure that in these 50 years I haven't stopped listening to it at least once a month. I am counting the days until October 6th to hear the REDUX. Money is precious. I didn't expect anything more than a change – not with the guitar and sax of the original – but rather something really new and with a Roger Waters stamp. I thought it was fantastic! Although as I said, I will always continue listening to the original as soon as I have life left…

I've never rated "Dark Side Of The Moon" as anything but a well constructed pop album that probably created the genre commonly known as "AOR". In my opinion, it was another case of an album becoming popular because it was popular…in a collection that includes "Frampton Comes Alive" and "Hot August Night". Good albums but how often do people actually play and listen to them. They just join other albums that "music fans" had to have because everyone else has them. Be that as it may, I'll be damned if I will take regard of a multi-millionaire lecturing me on the evils of wealth. I'm surprised he didn't invite Bono to join him in a duet of the sanctimonious rich.

i liked this version for what it is a jazzy smoke filled club version i could picture the pigs in chairs smoking cigars listening to this the word play is amazing what people dont understand is its not supposed to compete with or replace the orginal its from a more dark perspective idky people are hating on it they are mixing up the picture here also he is 79 how much melody do people think his voice has left!

I honestly can't see the point of reworking old classics like money. Is Roger reclaiming his back catalogue. I personally think that Waters songs were great when interpreted by Pink Floyd the band and should be left alone as they can never be bettered. Waters was never the best singer in Floyd and I'm sure with age it's got worse.

And don't forget, David Gilmour got lazy after Dark Side, not really writing anything or even trying. He added guitar solos to already existing songs. Roger was forced to take the lead because they had obligations to put out albums and Gilmour and Wright weren't bringing anything to the table anymore, even though they both put out forgettable solo albums in the late 70s. But when it came to The Wall and The Final Cut sessions, nothing.
