Association on American Indian Affairs | August 18, 2025

Michael Ramirez (Konkow Maidu, Wintun, Hupa/Yurok) is a Native historian and storyteller whose work uplifts California Native voices and histories often left untold. A graduate of Humboldt State University with a degree in Native American Studies, Michael is the proud great-grandson of Bertha Nye Norton—one of the founding Native mothers of Sacramento and a foundational figure in California’s Native history. With deep roots in the land and a passion for preserving oral traditions, Michael brings a powerful perspective on the past that informs our present and future.
